Amidst the high cost of airfare (approximately 6 million VND/round trip from Hanoi to Phu Quoc; approximately 3.5 million VND/round trip from Ho Chi Minh City to Phu Quoc), many businesses and resorts in Phu Quoc have launched promotional programs to stimulate demand and attract tourists to the island by land, a number expected to increase significantly during the upcoming 5-day holiday.

According to Nguyen Vu Khac Huy, Vice Chairman of the Kien Giang Provincial Tourism Association, many units and businesses have agreed to cooperate in offering reasonably priced tours to welcome tourists by waterway from Ha Tien and Rach Gia to Phu Quoc. Accordingly, the prices of speedboats, hotels, entertainment services, and food have not increased compared to normal days.

Specifically, the Superdong high-speed ferry company, whose fleet primarily transports passengers from Kien Giang province to Phu Quoc island, has committed to not increasing ticket prices. A reporter from HanoiMoi newspaper experienced a Superdong high-speed ferry trip from Rach Gia city to Phu Quoc and found the journey quite convenient. The ferry was spacious and punctual; the journey took about two hours, feeling similar to traveling by car on land.

“High-speed ferry tickets cost approximately 230,000 to 340,000 VND per trip, depending on whether it's an adult or a child. Currently, there are about 13 ferry trips per day from Rach Gia or Ha Tien to Phu Quoc. During the upcoming holiday, the number of trips will increase to 28 per day. Tourists bringing cars can use the sea ferry, also departing from Rach Gia or Ha Tien, with a journey time of over 3 hours per trip,” said Ms. Hong Thi Van Thuy, Head of Superdong Phu Quoc ticket office.

In Sunset Town, located in the south of Phu Quoc Island, many resorts offer attractive packages to draw tourists. Accordingly, room rates at 3-star mini-hotels in this popular resort area range from 900,000 to 1.8 million VND per night, depending on the room. Vacation apartments at the Sun Grand City Hillside Residences high-rise complex, with full amenities and infinity pools overlooking the Sunset Bridge in the middle of the sea, also offer attractive prices, depending on the tourist's bargaining skills with the apartment owner.

The cable car operator from Sunset Town to Hon Thom Island is also offering a promotional package: complimentary cable car tickets for guests booking standard hotel rooms in the Mediterranean area, priced at approximately 1.6 million VND per room for two people. If guests have lunch on Hon Thom Island (the final destination of the over 7km cable car route), an additional fee will apply. Alternatively, guests can purchase a combo ticket including cable car, meals, and entertainment on Hon Thom Island; tickets to the water park, access to the Kissing Bridge, and nightly art performances and fireworks displays in Sunset Town.

Major restaurants on Phu Quoc Island have now completed their expansions and upgrades, and are ready to welcome guests during the upcoming holiday season.

Mr. Pham Ngoc Chuong, Director of Bach Phu An Restaurant, said that they have completed the new banquet rooms, including a large room with LED screens, a glass stage, a modern sound and lighting system, and a menu featuring authentic Phu Quoc cuisine to serve tourists.

Meanwhile, Mr. Nguyen Hung, Director of Ngu Uyen Restaurant, informed that they are ready to welcome guests to their dining rooms with views reminiscent of the Southern Vietnamese river landscape.

According to Mr. Nguyen Van Nghia, Director of Vietnam Smile Tourism Co., Ltd. (VNS), the new feature of Phu Quoc tourism this year is the closer and more effective collaboration among tourism, travel, transportation, and service businesses to attract tourists to Phu Quoc. Many service providers have offered greater incentives than in previous years and are ready to participate in collaborations to build tours and routes with attractive prices and good quality for tourists.

“Our company is currently simultaneously improving the quality of service for customers who can still travel by air, so they feel that their money spent on a vacation in Phu Quoc is worthwhile. At the same time, we are collaborating with various parties to develop suitable service packages for tourists traveling to Phu Quoc by sea. However, in the long term, we hope that all parties will soon address the issue of excessively high airfares. As an island city, if airfares are too high and the number of flights is too few, Phu Quoc will find it very difficult to compete on price with other tourist destinations with convenient travel within the country and even internationally,” Mr. Nguyen Van Nghia suggested.

With an area of 593 square kilometers, comprising more than 40 islands and a population of nearly 150,000 people, Phu Quoc city in Kien Giang province holds a crucial position in terms of economy, national defense and security, and serves as an important transportation hub for the region and internationally.

On March 19, 2024, the Standing Committee of the Kien Giang Provincial Party Committee issued Directive No. 21-CT/TU, on promoting sustainable tourism development in the province. Accordingly, it is necessary to build a cultural, civilized, friendly, and hospitable tourism environment based on the motto "Every citizen is a tourism ambassador." It is also crucial to effectively utilize the resources of businesses investing in tourism development in the province. Furthermore, it is necessary to develop and launch the program "Each key tourism region progresses towards each district and city having its own unique tourism product." Finally, it is essential to effectively implement tourism development cooperation and linkage programs both domestically and internationally.
