In the early days of spring 2025, a sacred destination in Dong Trieu City, within the complex of over 600 historical sites in Quang Ninh, is attracting the most visitors: Ngoa Van Pagoda, the sacred site of the Truc Lam Zen sect, where Emperor Tran Nhan Tong practiced Buddhism and attained enlightenment. Visiting this sacred land, pilgrims can enjoy fascinating experiences about the history of Emperor Tran Nhan Tong's spiritual journey, the beautiful natural scenery, and the source of renewed inspiration.

Am - Ngoa Van Pagoda, where Emperor Tran Nhan Tong practiced Buddhism and attained enlightenment, is a unique architectural complex and a sacred site of the Truc Lam Zen sect. The complex is located on a mountain over 1,000m high, "Bao Dai Mountain," on the western side of the Yen Tu mountain range - the Dong Trieu arc, today belonging to Tay Son village, Binh Khe ward, Dong Trieu city.
To reach the historical site complex, pilgrims can choose from two modes of transportation: by road, or via a cable car system that is over 2,000 meters long and takes more than 10 minutes.
From the cable car, pilgrims can enjoy panoramic views of the majestic natural landscape of Ngoa Van mountain range and take記念 photos during their pilgrimage to the Buddhist land.
The first destination is Ngoa Van Pagoda, built in the shape of the Chinese character "二" (two) (modeled after the Ngoa Van Pagoda built during the Le Trung Hung period in 1707). The pagoda consists of two buildings: the front hall, where a statue of Emperor Tran Nhan Tong, crafted from red jade, is placed; and the back hall, with its three bays and two wings, is also located.
The Thượng Pagoda is planned with its entire space and landscape divided into three sections: the Immortal's Chessboard, the pagoda and hermitage area, and the ceremonial support area. It includes the Ngọa Vân Hermitage and a system of Buddhist pagodas.
Ngoa Van Hermitage is home to a statue of Emperor Tran Nhan Tong, depicted in a reclining posture, mimicking the Buddha entering Nirvana. The hermitage is built of brick, with a vaulted brick roof. A single entrance on the south side bears the three Chinese characters "Ngoa Van Hermitage".
At the historical site complex, pilgrims can gain further insight into the history of Emperor Tran Nhan Tong's spiritual practice and the system of Buddhist stupas.
Visitors offer incense and pray for good fortune at the beginning of spring at the Buddhist Emperor Pagoda and the Đoan Nghiêm Pagoda, both constructed of stone.
At the historical site complex, pilgrims have many spaces to experience Buddhist culture through various forms, including beautiful images of Vietnamese Buddhism right at the entrance.
According to information from the Organizing Committee, from the 1st to the 5th day of the Lunar New Year of the Year of the Snake, the Ngoa Van Pagoda and Temple complex attracted nearly 20,000 visitors.
