- As a compulsory content in the 2018 General Education Program (GEP), the Local Education subject (LD) not only conveys knowledge about culture, history, and economy but also acts as a bridge to help students foster love for their homeland, sense of responsibility, and connection with the identity of Lang Son.

Local Education has the same position as other subjects and educational activities, including issues of culture, history, geography, economy, society, environment, and career orientation of the locality. Accordingly, this content fosters in students love for their homeland, awareness of learning and applying what they have learned to contribute to solving the problems of their homeland.
Implementing the plan of the Provincial People's Committee on compiling and appraising documents, the Department of Education and Training (DoET) has deployed the construction of a set of documents for Lang Son province's secondary level with a total duration of 35 periods/grade with 60 compiled topics, of which: grade 6 has 9 topics, grade 7 has 8 topics, grade 8 has 8 topics, grade 9 has 8 topics, grade 10 has 9 topics, grade 11 has 10 topics, grade 12 has 8 topics. For example, grade 9 students will learn about GDDP topics such as: Tay and Nung ethnic languages in Lang Son; Modern literature of Lang Son; Lang Son during the period of fighting for independence and defending the Fatherland (1919 - 1975).... Or grade 6 students will learn about: Legends of Lang Son; Traditional music genres of Lang Son; Traditional costumes of Lang Son ethnic groups; Some typical historical figures in Lang Son.... Lang Son is a locality rich in tradition and culture, the GDDP documents are compiled in accordance with local practical conditions, contributing to the effective implementation of the 2018 General Education Program.
Ms. Phan My Hanh, Deputy Director of the Department of Education and Training, said: Local education not only helps students understand their homeland more deeply but also contributes to preserving and promoting local cultural values. The Department of Education and Training has directed educational institutions to proactively develop plans to implement local education content and effectively and appropriately apply active teaching methods such as: applying information technology; taking advantage of rich local resources and learning materials to supplement teaching materials; enhancing students' practical and personal experiences through presentation activities, role-playing, creative storytelling, forums, knowledge competitions, field trips, visiting relics, etc.
At the same time, the Department encourages schools to organize local literature festivals to honor and promote the value of literary works associated with Lang Son land; step up propaganda and socialization of local literature education; coordinate with cultural agencies, libraries, and museums to provide rich documents on local literature.

Creativity in teaching Ethnic Minority Education has brought about remarkable results in schools in the province. At Bac Son Secondary and High School for Ethnic Minority Boarding, Ethnic Minority Education lessons are always exciting. Observing a Ethnic Minority Education lesson in class 10A, we saw students enthusiastically discussing, carefully decorating and presenting the lesson content to prepare for the presentation. The class was more special when both teachers and students wore traditional ethnic costumes.
After the class, Duong Thi Chuyen (grade 10A, Bac Son Secondary and High School for Ethnic Minorities) shared: I really like the Community Education classes. Through each class, my friends and I learn more important knowledge about the history and culture of Bac Son in particular and Lang Son province in general. At the same time, each class also helps us practice appropriate behavioral skills in the community, build a good personality and develop our own abilities. I will always try to study, practice good ethics, actively participate in extracurricular activities, learn about my home province and strive to become a person who contributes a lot to my hometown.
To make the theory more attractive, Chi Lang High School has applied many creative forms such as: introducing and organizing folk games; dramatizing local fairy tales; singing and responding competitions on the theme of Lang Son folk songs; organizing Then dance practices, martial arts dances, lion and cat dances; or acting as a tour guide to introduce Lang Son province's cultural heritages...
Mr. Hoang Manh Hung, Principal of Chi Lang High School, said: The school's teaching staff is always proactive in collecting documents, images, and videos related to the topic of GDĐP to serve teaching, at the same time, guiding students to design videos, infographics, draw pictures, and search for sources of materials to serve the lesson content. After 3 years of implementing GDĐP materials, students are increasingly interested in learning, especially when learning about their hometown, culture, and local history. Students not only understand more about traditions, landscapes, and people, but also develop love for their homeland, national pride, and a sense of responsibility for their homeland and community.
In the context of the stable operation of the two-level government, general schools continue to implement teaching according to the 2018 General Education Program and current textbooks. However, the subject of Local Education, which is closely linked to the characteristics of history, geography, and culture, needs to be updated and adjusted in content to keep up with the changes of the province and the country.
Right from the beginning of the school year, the Department of Education and Training issued an official dispatch guiding the implementation of updating and supplementing materials for the secondary level GDDP documents for the 2025-2026 school year. The Board of Directors of schools has urgently grasped this content, directed professional groups to review and adjust teaching plans. Teachers who directly teach are responsible for carefully studying the adjusted content to accurately update the lesson plans to ensure that all information about administrative units in the GDDP documents is consistent and accurate, helping students have knowledge appropriate to the reality of Lang Son province.
It can be affirmed that with innovative teaching methods and emphasis on practicality, the subject of Local Education is bringing about clear results. Not only limited to providing knowledge, Local Education has created opportunities for students to access practical knowledge, thereby contributing to career orientation and fostering revolutionary ideals for the young generation.
