The German women's team had a perfect start at the 2023 Women's World Cup with a resounding 6-0 victory over the Moroccan women's team in their opening match of Group H.

Captain Alexandra Popp shone with a brace of headers to give the world number 2 team a 2-0 lead in the first 45 minutes. In the second half, the German Women's team continued to dominate and added four more goals scored by Klara Buehl (46th minute) and Lea Schuller (90th minute), along with two own goals by Hanane Ait El Haj (54th minute) and Yasmin Katie Mrabet Slack (79th minute) of Morocco.

This is the biggest victory since the start of the 2023 Women's World Cup, surpassing the previous 5-0 win by the Japanese women's team against Zambia.

With a 6-0 victory, coach Martina Voss-Tecklenburg's team also had the third best start in the history of the 9 World Cups that the country has participated in.

In Group F, the Brazilian women's team (ranked 8th in the world) had a fantastic start with a resounding victory over Panama (ranked 52nd in the world). With their diverse and unpredictable attacking tactics, the Samba team inflicted a 4-goal defeat on their opponents. The goals for the South American representatives were scored by Argy Borges (19th, 39th, and 70th minutes) and Zaneratto Joao (48th minute).

According to statistics, the Brazilian women's team controlled the ball 73% of the time, launching 32 shots at Panama's goal (10 on target). Despite being completely outplayed, the Panamanian women's team also managed 6 shots at Brazil, 2 of which were on target. This result puts the Brazilian women's team at the top of Group F.

The victory against Panama also helped Brazil set a record as the only team in the history of the Women's World Cup to win all nine of their opening matches in the nine tournaments held so far. The USA drew 2-2 with North Korea, while Germany was held to a draw by Italy in their first match of the 1999 Women's World Cup. No other team has won 100% of their matches like Brazil.
