Don't leave them alone

VHO- The image of a male student who does not want to get out of bed every morning because “every day at school is a painful day”; physical pain from the punches and kicks of his classmates, mental pain from being helpless before the joy of his classmates. The male student can only endure and every night he dreams of going to a happy school. Every night, he adds a line in his notebook to count the days until the graduation ceremony. Many classmates witness Duc (a male student) being bullied every day, but every recess, everyone rushes out into the hallway or huddles together to do something, ignoring the adversity… That is the content of a short film called Dream by a group of students from Hanoi High School for the Gifted.

The story is the voice of many students who have been and are being bullied at school. There are many reasons why a student is bullied: good at studying, pretty, gentle, or even "hateful to see" is also bullied. The fundamental reason why children are abused for a long time is due to the indifference of those around them. Parents still take care of their children with every meal, urge them to study every day, but do not have time to talk to them, do not detect their worries and fears, and are not even perceptive enough to discover why their children always wear long clothes (to hide injuries and scratches caused by abuse in class and on the street). Teachers go to class, finish lecturing and then walk out the door, what do students do during recess, surely few teachers intend to observe. Friends take advantage of recess to bury their noses in their phones or personal interests and hobbies, do not care about those around them or are afraid to protect the weak...

In reality, most cases of school violence are only discovered when clips are released, and only then do agencies and organizations get involved. Rarely are cases discovered proactively, because the victims do not dare to report because they have been threatened, while if only one person dares to stand up to protect and denounce the wrong, the evil will be stopped.

The short film Mong won the Most Favorite Short Film award at the Red Carpet Awards 2023 (the first short film contest exclusively for students in Hanoi organized by the Movies for Relief charity film organization under the Youth Union of the Pedagogical High School). The film is not only a competition entry, but also the voice of the students about school violence. And the message to parents, teachers,educators , and social managers is: Pay attention to the children, never let a child feel lonely or abandoned, whether at school or at home.
