Dung Quang Nho: Quietly making a difference

In round 22 of the 2024-2025 V-League held at Pleiku Stadium on May 11, Dung Quang Nho had an assist and also scored the goal that sealed the dramatic 2-1 victory of Hoang Anh Gia Lai Club (HAGL) when hosting The Cong Viettel Club. This result also helped the mountain town team rise to 8th place on the 2024-2025 V-League rankings with 27 points after 22 rounds, "wide open" to successfully stay in the league.

As diligent as a bee

In the context of a shortage of defenders due to injuries and suspensions, coach Le Quang Trai was forced to put Dung Quang Nho in the center-back position, alongside Jairo. Although his physique is not very impressive, Quang Nho made the strikers of Viettel The Cong Club frustrated thanks to his ability to close in, read situations to intercept the ball accurately.

Stuck in approaching to shoot from close range due to the solid defense and tight coverage of the central defender duo Quang Nho - Jairo, The Cong Viettel Club switched to shooting from a distance and threatened many times, causing the HAGL Club goal to waver... but still could not find a goal.

In the beginning of the second half, from a corner kick on the left wing, Quang Nho tried to save the ball, headed the ball to assist his teammate Jairo to open the score for HAGL Club. However, the home team's lead did not last long, when The Cong Viettel was awarded a penalty and equalized in the 72nd minute.

Just when it seemed that HAGL Club would be divided, Quang Nho became a "hero", joining a quick counterattack and scoring the winning goal for the home team at Pleiku Stadium.

Unlike many of his teammates from the HAGL "furnace" who have technical qualities, Quang Nho stands out for his ability to compete, strength and tenacious fighting spirit. Therefore, he is often assigned the responsibility of "sweeping" to recover the ball, intercepting from afar and always completing the task.

The player born in 2000 is always as diligent as a busy bee on the field, can play well in many positions such as full-back, defensive midfielder, even moving into the middle to play as a center-back when needed. It is this versatility that helps Quang Nho gain the trust of the coaches, giving him a starting position in the HAGL Club's squad.

"Steel Warrior"

In the 2023 season, when HAGL Club struggled with many changes in its squad, Quang Nho was one of the few players who played consistently, not only in terms of expertise but also in terms of fighting spirit. He was affectionately called "steel warrior" by fans for his passion on the field and his progressive attitude in training.

Dung Quang Nho is a Cham player, born into a poor family in the sunny and windy land of Phan Thiet. His steely spirit and innate talent helped him soon become the leader of the young players of HAGL Club, catching the eye of the coaches of the U19 and U22 Vietnam teams.

Football expert Doan Minh Xuong commented: "Dung Quang Nho is a rare all-round midfielder in the current V-League. He can play well in both defensive and supporting roles. Quang Nho's perseverance and ability to read the game have helped the team withstand great pressure. If properly invested, he can go further, even aiming for regional tournaments."

Meanwhile, senior Tran Minh Vuong said: "Quang Nho has a very admirable fighting spirit, is not afraid of collision and always stays calm in tense situations. HAGL Club is lucky to have such an energetic player."

"With stable performance in the 2024-2025 season, Dung Quang Nho is the home team's great hope in the relegation race. He is also expected to return to the national team under coach Kim Sang-sik, especially when the Vietnamese team needs young players to refresh the midfield.
