On February 26th, the concert film (or music documentary) "Brother Says Hi: The Villain Makes the Hero" officially premiered. After four nights of performances in Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi , with the fifth night already announced, the film has achieved great success. According to the producers, the film has sold over 450,000 advance tickets alone, becoming the top-selling film in this genre in Vietnamese box office history. The production team also announced that another concert film will be released this year, but has not yet revealed a specific date.

Many beautiful images promise to stir emotions in these concert films.
However, audiences won't have to wait long to enjoy another concert film, as Hoang Thuy Linh's Vietnamese concert film, "We Are Vietnamese, " is scheduled to be released in theaters starting March 14th. Unlike her two "older siblings" who capitalized on the momentum of the concerts, the owner of the album "Hoang" chose to release the film relatively far from the concert dates. Thus, within a short period, three concert films have been introduced.
In fact, this isn't a completely new approach, as pioneering artists have done it many years ago. Big hits in theaters include My Tam's "Tri Am The Movie: Nguoi Giu Thoi Gian " (2023) and Son Tung M-TP's "Sky Tour: The Movie " (2020). These two works quickly grossed billions of dong in a short time and then appeared on streaming platforms. Following this approach (but without a theatrical release) are Ha Anh Tuan's "Nhung Vat Thuong Lanh " (2023) and Den Vau's "Show Cua Den" (2021)… With such high frequency, it's clear that the domestic market is entering a period of extreme dynamism. The music ecosystem is expanding beyond singles, albums, music videos, art exhibitions, and derivative works, and more recently, sold-out concerts and memorable concert films.
Hoang Thuy Linh shared that through the film, she hopes the audience will be able to relive the Vietnamese Concert in a complete, perfect, and emotionally rich way.
Speaking to Thanh Nien newspaper , a representative from the production team of the show "Brother Says Hi" said: "Concert films are not a new concept; many similar works have been released before. However, with 'Brother Says Hi: The Villain Creates the Hero ,' we believe this is not simply a documentary, but also a 'romantic documentary' or 'emotional documentary' – a film containing the most genuine emotions, portraying the journey of the artists from a deeply moving perspective. The overwhelming reception from the audience was something we could completely predict, because the number of fans who love the show and the 30 brothers is very large."
Why is it attractive?
It can be said that the most important factor contributing to the success of this genre is that the films revive the emotions and special moments that audiences experienced with a show or performance they admired. As the production team of "Brother Says Hi" shared: "The film not only captures spectacular performances but also helps artists, audiences, and loved ones 'see themselves again' in moments they once experienced but may have unintentionally missed. We simply fulfill the mission of bringing people the feelings they are waiting for - a deep connection between the artist and the fans."
My brother says hi: Villain creates hero, setting new box office record.
This was also confirmed by the members at the premiere. HIEUTHUHAI said: "This film is very touching for me, marking a milestone in my career journey and that of the 29 artists… This result is the sweet reward after the difficult and doubtful days of the members. I already felt very proud at the concerts, and today, stepping out to the theater to see this film, I have to say I'm extremely proud." RHYDER also expressed: "Thanks to this film, I got to relive moments and perspectives that I sometimes missed. I got to see how I and all the members of the show shone."
To capture these special moments, the team shared with Thanh Nien newspaper: "From the beginning, the film was conceived when the show format was being developed, aiming to create a series of values and different appearances according to each genre and type. With a massive amount of content, this posed many challenges for the film crew with 41 cameras working continuously, recording every moment of the program. Selecting and condensing the most essential footage into a film that is only 2 hours long required not only meticulous planning but also ensuring the full spirit and emotion of the program were conveyed."
Another appealing aspect is that these works also capture never-before-seen moments and heartwarming behind-the-scenes scenes that viewers have never seen before. For example, in the upcoming Vietnamese concert film: We Are Vietnamese , the difficult period when Hoang Thuy Linh faced controversy at the press conference will be recreated. Meanwhile, in Brother Says Hi , viewers will be surprised when the program responds to biased comments about plagiarism or "showcasing" records with achievements and awards...
In particular, theaters are very flexible in providing a comfortable space to help audiences immerse themselves in the film. They can stand up, sing along, and even move closer to the screen. Recording memorable moments is also allowed (but must be under 30 seconds). Through this, audiences not only relive the experience but also have the opportunity to connect with others who share the same passion. And as idol culture is gradually evolving, concert films also promise to become a new trend.
