The hundred billion dong road next to Tan Son Nhat airport is temporarily open to traffic but is still deserted because people... don't know.

The road connecting Tan Son Nhat airport has been temporarily opened to traffic, helping to reduce congestion, but few vehicles still enter.

On November 9, the joint venture of contractors T&T - HJC in package 10 of the Tran Quoc Hoan - Cong Hoa connecting road project said that it had completed 99% of the total construction volume and temporarily opened to traffic.

This package is worth more than 120 billion VND, including construction items of roads, retaining walls, sidewalks, and drainage systems from the section adjacent to Thang Long Street to the section adjacent to 18E Street.

The road section of package 10 (blue) has been temporarily opened to traffic although the entire Tran Quoc Hoan - Cong Hoa connecting road project has not been completed.

Most importantly, package 10 has branch 2 from 18E street towards Cong Hoa street, helping vehicles not to have to gather at Lang Cha Ca roundabout. The remaining branch connects to the main route and leads to Terminal T3 of Tan Son Nhat International Airport.

The road section of Package 10 is designed with 6 lanes to help share traffic to residential areas on both sides of Cong Hoa Street during rush hour.

According to the assessment of the Ho Chi Minh City Traffic Department, package 10 will help vehicles go straight through the area previously managed by the military, then turn left onto Cong Hoa Street near Hoang Hoa Tham overpass. This route will reduce congestion at Lang Cha Ca roundabout that has been going on for many years.

However, according to Giao thong Newspaper's reporter, the number of vehicles traveling this route is very small. During the entire journey from Phan Thuc Duyen - Thang Long intersection to 18E - Cong Hoa intersection, there were only about 5 vehicles including cars and motorbikes.

"Once the road is open to traffic, the construction unit should have someone to guide traffic so that people know. Before, there was a military guard post at the beginning of the road, so people got used to it and did not dare to go in," said Ms. Thu Phuong (42 years old, living in Tan Binh district).

The Tran Quoc Hoan - Cong Hoa connecting road project will start construction at the end of 2022 with a total investment of more than 4,800 billion VND.

The entire route is about 4.4km long, with a scale of 6 lanes, and is expected to relieve traffic congestion in the area around Tan Son Nhat airport, especially in the direction of traffic to the Northwest of Ho Chi Minh City. Initially, the project established 6 main construction packages, but currently only 5 packages have been constructed.

The Tan Ky Tan Quy tunnel construction package alone is likely to be split into a separate project or implemented in phase 2.

Most motorbikes turned left towards Lang Cha Ca roundabout at the Phan Thuc Duyen - Thang Long intersection even though the road ahead was open to traffic.

On the 6-lane road section of package 10, the median strip and road markings have been completed.

A representative of the Tan Binh Traffic Police Team said that the number of trucks entering the Phan Thuc Duyen underpass often increases dramatically at noon due to the delivery schedule at the airport warehouse. However, most drivers still "avoid" entering this underpass due to concerns about congestion.

Meanwhile, cars are still struggling to avoid the Phan Thuc Duyen underpass because they do not know if the connecting road next to the underpass has opened to traffic.
