People in Giong Da hamlet, Ban Thach commune, Giong Rieng district ( Kien Giang ) raise frogs for meat.
Specifically, the best quality meat frogs, size 3-4, cost 57,000 VND/kg, the second quality meat frogs, size 5-6, cost 50,000 VND/kg. The retail price of farmed frogs at the markets is 90,000-110,000 VND/kg depending on whether they are cleaned or sold whole.
According to Mr. Nguyen Quoc Vinh, owner of Quoc Vinh frog farm in Dong Yen commune, An Bien district (Kien Giang), the supply of frog meat from the northern provinces has decreased due to the weather not being suitable for frog farming, so the price of frog meat in the province remains high, helping farmers make a profit.
According to many frog farmers in Kien Giang, frog farming has low investment costs, only requiring a small area to build a cement tank or make a cage in a pond or canal. In addition, households with little capital can invest in raising frogs with trash fish and snails instead of industrial feed, on average, they can raise 3-4 broods of frogs a year, if there is a stable output, the economic efficiency is relatively high.
