According to data released by the General Statistics Office on July 5, Vietnam welcomed 1.46 million international visitors in June, a slight decrease compared to the previous month but an increase of more than 17% over the same period last year.

In the first 6 months of the year, Vietnam tourism served nearly 10.7 million international visitors, an increase of about 21% over the same period in 2024 and an increase of nearly 26% over 2019.

Of these, the number of visitors arriving by air accounted for a high proportion with nearly 9.1 million arrivals. Next, visitors arriving by road accounted for nearly 1.4 million arrivals. The remainder were visitors by sea.

Thus, Vietnam has only achieved nearly 49% of its target of welcoming international visitors this year (from 22-23 million arrivals). However, the time that is considered to have the greatest impact on the number of visitors is the peak season from October to December every year.

Northeast Asia remained the largest market sending visitors to Vietnam in the first 6 months of the year, accounting for 60% of total arrivals. China continued to hold the top spot, with more than 2.7 million arrivals. Next was South Korea with more than 2.2 million arrivals.

According to the General Statistics Office, revenue from accommodation and catering services in the first 6 months of 2025 is estimated at VND409,500 billion. Some localities with impressive revenue increases compared to the same period last year are Da Nang (18.5%), Ho Chi Minh City (16.9%), Hanoi (13%) and Hai Phong (12.5%).

Many localities have actively implemented tourism stimulus programs and developed many new types of tourism to attract domestic and foreign visitors.

Previously, on July 3, at the first Government Conference with localities after implementing the 2-level local government model, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh assessed tourism as one of the 10 highlights in the first 6 months of 2025.

According to the World Tourism Barometer (May 2025) of the United Nations Tourism Organization (UN Tourism), in the first quarter of 2025, Vietnam tourism is a bright spot with the highest growth rate of international tourists in the Asia-Pacific region with an increase of 30% compared to the same period in 2024.

Vietnam also ranks second in terms of recovery in international arrivals (up 34% compared to 2019) and fourth in terms of total tourism revenue growth, with 29% compared to 2024.
