On the morning of April 29, nearly 450 international delegates from 57 countries and territories gathered in Hue City to attend the 45th General Assembly of the International Association of Francophone Mayors (AIMF) to discuss issues surrounding heritage, tourism and climate change.

This conference is not only an opportunity for French-speaking cities to strengthen cooperation but also a place to discuss solutions to global challenges.

Highlights included: "Heritage and sustainable tourism", "Cities responding to climate emergency", "Smart cities", and "Innovation for the future".

Speaking at the conference, Mr. Nguyen Van Phuong, Chairman of Hue City People's Committee, said that with its rich culture and 8 UNESCO titles, Hue City is considered an active member of AIMF.

Over the years, the city has successfully implemented a series of projects supported by AIMF such as: renovating the Citadel area, building a reception center for French-speaking students (now part of the French Institute in Hue), and most recently, a sludge treatment plant project to serve the circular economy .

"We are very proud to continue to be a place where the common voice of the Francophone community converges - a community committed to preserving heritage, developing sustainable tourism and dealing with climate change," said Mr. Phuong.

The Chairman of Hue City also expressed his hope to continue expanding cooperation with French-speaking cities, especially in the fields of heritage conservation and green urban development.

Ms. Anne Hidalgo (Mayor of Paris, France and also President of AIMF) said that AIMF cities need to join hands, cooperate, and exchange information related to handling issues of climate change, preserving heritage, and developing green, sustainable tourism.
