Wrongly labeled X-ray results, patient had to undergo surgery

Specifically, the patient, Mr. NHH (61 years old, residing in Hoai Duc commune, Lam Ha district), came to the hospital on the morning of February 20, suspected of having kidney stones, so he was ordered to have an X-ray. The X-ray results showed a foreign object, a long piece of plastic urine tube, in the patient's abdomen.

Based on this result, the doctor advised the family to pay for a urethral endoscopy to remove the wire. However, after performing the endoscopy on Mr. H., the doctor could not find the plastic tube as shown in the X-ray.

Regarding this incident, Dr. Nguyen Van Nhan, Deputy Director of Lam Dong General Hospital, explained the incident that happened in the X-ray room. Accordingly, patient H. was invited into the X-ray room first, so the doctor put his name on the film board. At the same time, another patient was also invited into the X-ray room and entered the room faster, so he was scanned before Mr. H. Therefore, the result of the film board with Mr. H.'s name showed that the plastic tube leading urine from the kidney to the urethra belonged to another patient.

The Director of Lam Dong General Hospital added that on February 21, the hospital held a meeting with relevant departments to clarify the cause of the error for the individuals. The hospital also contacted the family of patient H. to apologize.

"Tomorrow (February 22), hospital leaders, department representatives and relevant people will go to patient H's house to apologize directly. The hospital will examine, monitor and take care of patient H's health until he recovers from the incident," Dr. Tien added.

Ms. NTH (59 years old, wife of patient H.) said that 17 years ago, Mr. H. had had surgery to remove kidney stones, but recently the condition relapsed. She took her husband for an X-ray in Lam Ha District, which showed kidney stones. The doctor advised him to go to Lam Dong General Hospital for appropriate treatment. However, when she went to Lam Dong General Hospital for examination, she did not bring the X-ray film taken in Lam Ha District, so she had to take another X-ray, leading to a mistake, causing her husband to pay for an incorrect endoscopic procedure.
