After two heavy defeats (and no goals scored) against Iraq and UAE, U23 Vietnam entered the final match against Kyrgyzstan at Doha Cup 2023.
Compared to the two previous opponents, Kyrgyzstan is considered a "more suitable" team. Like U23 Vietnam, this team has not scored any points in the Doha Cup. Coach Maxim Lisitsyn's team lost 0-1 to Kuwait and 0-2 to Oman.
So, this is an honorable match and also an opportunity for both sides to show their expertise after two consecutive losses.
Facing a not-so-strong opponent helps the spirit of the U23 Vietnam players to be more comfortable. However, Van Truong and his teammates must learn a lesson after the last two defeats.
In the second match against U23 UAE, the whole team played well in the first half, before losing strength and losing control of the game in the second half.
Coach Philippe Troussier emphasized that U23 Vietnam needs to gradually improve their playing ability as well as improve ball control against strong opponents.
"We will improve step by step. Don't worry too much about the results because I am the one responsible," Mr. Troussier emphasized.
Compared to the match against UAE, U23 Vietnam has some personnel changes. Center back Tien Long and midfielder Minh Khoa returned to face U23 Kyrgyzstan after having rested for a full match, following the red card penalty in the opening match against U23 Iraq.
In addition, goalkeeper Doan Huy Hoang, who was hospitalized in the previous match, will also be given a rest. Most likely, the starting goalkeeper will be Tran Liem Dieu - a goalkeeper who has not played a single minute at the Doha Cup 2023.
Meeting Kyrgyzstan continues to be a difficult match for U23 Vietnam, but coach Philippe Troussier's team believes they will play better to have a beautiful farewell to the Doha Cup.
