Over the past week, expert Nguyen Quang Binh said that the coffee market has been fluctuating according to the US economic situation. The increase in the value of the US dollar and the inventory of coffee on the trading floor have also contributed to slowing down the recovery of world coffee prices.

According to experts, domestic coffee prices are likely to continue to increase or at least remain high if the drought persists and supply does not improve. However, the market remains sensitive to weather-related information as well as intervention from major importers.

World coffee prices today

On the London Stock Exchange, the online price of robusta coffee for July 2025 delivery closed last week at $5,291/ton, down 2.3% ($124/ton) from the previous week; the September 2025 delivery contract fell 2.5% ($132/ton) to $5,231/ton.

Similarly, on the New York Stock Exchange, the price of Arabica coffee for July 2025 delivery decreased by 3.6% (14.5 US cents/pound) compared to the previous week, reaching 385.4 US cents/pound; the September 2025 futures contract decreased by 3.5% (13.9 US cents/pound), to 378.7 US cents/pound.

Coffee prices fell sharply last week after the US consumer confidence index hit its lowest level in nearly five years in April, indicating that US consumers are worried about the economic outlook and tend to cut back on spending on non-essential items, including coffee.

Analysts say the new 10% basic tax imposed by the White House is one of the main reasons for the drop in coffee prices. The new tax not only increases the cost of imported raw materials but also affects purchasing power in the US, the world's second largest coffee consuming market after the European Union.

Major corporations such as Starbucks, Hershey and Mondelez International have warned that the new tariffs will push up prices and put downward pressure on sales. In response, the National Coffee Association (NCA) has proposed exempting imported green coffee from the tariffs. The NCA’s executive director said the Trump administration has welcomed the proposal, but it is unclear whether a decision will be made.
