(HG) - After a long period of sharp decline to only about 2,000-3,000 VND/kg, the price of oranges has now increased again to 5,000-7,000 VND/kg. According to orange growers, due to low prices, farmers limit the treatment of off-season fruit, only letting the trees bear fruit naturally to reduce investment costs, but with current prices, farmers hardly make any profit.
It's not orange season now so the yield is low.
According to the Department of Cultivation and Plant Protection of Hau Giang province, the whole province currently has about 6,500 hectares, mainly of navel oranges, with few other types of oranges. With the current selling price, the area of navel oranges is expected to continue to decrease in the coming time. In addition, for orange trees, due to the Greening disease and low selling prices, farmers are not bold enough to invest, so the trees are exhausted; a part of the area of trees is old and affected by the disease, so farmers switch to other crops with the hope of bringing higher economic efficiency.
