Electricity prices will increase by 4.8% to over VND2,200/kWh from tomorrow. |
The decision to increase prices this time was made in the context that EVN still has accumulated losses from electricity production and trading. Last year, the group was financially balanced and profitable from this business segment. However, in the two years before that, they lost a total of more than VND70,000 billion from this activity. This loss does not include VND18,032 billion in exchange rate differences from the electricity purchase and sale contract suspended from 2019 to 2023.
According to the inspection results of the Ministry of Industry and Trade at the end of 2024, EVN's total electricity production cost in 2023 is more than VND 528,600 billion, equivalent to a production price of VND 2,088.9/kWh, an increase of 2.79% compared to 2022.
Meanwhile, revenue from commercial electricity sales was VND 494,359 billion, equivalent to an average commercial electricity price of VND 1,953.57/kWh, an increase of 3.76% compared to 2022.
According to current regulations, electricity prices are considered for change every three months, when input costs increase by 2% or more, according to Government Decree 72. That is, there will be 4 price changes each year. The most recent electricity price adjustment was on October 11, 2024, and has been maintained since then.
