African swine fever is complicated: Nearly 250 outbreaks have not been controlled
The Ministry of Agriculture and Environment has just released alarming information about the African swine fever (ASF) situation in Vietnam. Since the beginning of the year, the country has recorded 514 outbreaks in 28 out of 63 provinces and cities, causing more than 30,000 pigs to become sick, die or have to be destroyed.
What is worrying is that there are still 248 outbreaks in 20 provinces and cities that have not passed 21 days, showing that the risk of disease outbreaks and widespread spread is high. This situation is especially serious in localities with large pig herds, causing negative impacts on the livestock industry, food supply and the environment.
Faced with this complicated situation, the Prime Minister has requested the Chairmen of the People's Committees of provinces and cities to proactively direct and implement drastic and synchronous measures to prevent and control ASF. At the same time, the Prime Minister also assigned the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment to coordinate with ministries, branches and localities to allocate necessary funds and resources to implement the National Plan for African Swine Fever Prevention and Control for the 2020-2025 period.
