Pig price today June 14
* Pig prices in the Northern region increased from 1,000 VND/kg to 2,000 VND/kg.
Specifically, after a slight increase in price, live pigs in Yen Bai, Lao Cai, Nam Dinh, Ha Nam and Ninh Binh are being purchased at a common price of 59,000 VND/kg.
With the same increase, the price of live pigs recorded in Tuyen Quang and Vinh Phuc was 60,000 VND/kg and 61,000 VND/kg, respectively.
Similarly, Hung Yen province increased by VND2,000/kg to the highest level in the region at VND62,000/kg, along with Thai Binh.
Today's live pig price in the North fluctuates between 59,000 - 62,000 VND/kg.
* The pig market in the Central and Central Highlands regions recorded mixed fluctuations in some localities.
Accordingly, the price of live pigs in Thua Thien Hue, Quang Ngai and Binh Dinh is 57,000 VND/kg, down 1,000 VND/kg compared to yesterday.
Meanwhile, 59,000 VND/kg is the highest price for live pigs in Binh Thuan province after increasing by 1,000 VND/kg. The remaining localities have stable prices today.
Currently, the purchase price of live pigs in the Central and Central Highlands regions is around 56,000 - 59,000 VND/kg.
* In the South, the price of live pigs increased by 1,000 VND/kg.
Currently, traders in Tien Giang and Bac Lieu are trading live pigs at the same price of 59,000 VND/kg.
59,000 VND/kg and 60,000 VND/kg are the prices of live pigs recorded in the two provinces of An Giang and Ben Tre, respectively.
The price of live pigs in the Southern region today fluctuates between 57,000 - 60,000 VND/kg.
* According to the assessment of the Import-Export Department (Ministry of Industry and Trade), in May, the price of live pigs nationwide tended to increase sharply by 4,000-7,000 VND/kg, in which the price level in cities was around 55,000-61,000 VND/kg. This is the highest price in nearly a year.
Prices increased mainly because the number of pigs being sold off due to the impact of African swine fever gradually decreased, while many pig farmers stopped restocking their herds, and large livestock enterprises had no plans to expand their scale due to concerns about oversupply.
However, even at this level, the total pig herd in the country still increased by 6.2% compared to the same period last year. Along with weak purchasing power and no increase in consumption output, it is difficult for the price of live pigs to maintain a high level for a long time.
Vice President of Dong Nai Livestock Association Nguyen Kim Doan said that on June 4, large foreign-invested livestock companies continued to discount traders by VND1,000/kg to stimulate market demand.
With this discount, the price of live pigs is announced at 60,500 VND/kg and thus, the purchase price at the farm for farmers is at 59,000-60,000 VND/kg.
With this price level of live pigs, according to Mr. Doan, depending on the scale of production, those units that already have barns, work for profit, do not borrow from banks, and can buy raw materials for animal feed that are decreasing will make a profit. If they have to borrow from banks to do business, the current price of live pigs will be equivalent to the cost of production.
