Northern pig price
In the Northern region, at least 14 provinces and cities have simultaneously adjusted prices down to 61,000 - 63,000 VND/kg.
Prices in Lao Cai, Lai Chau and Dien Bien have decreased by 1,000 VND, currently standing at 61,000 VND/kg. Localities such as Hanoi , Hai Phong and Bac Ninh are trading around 63,000 VND/kg. Many other places including Son La, Thai Nguyen, Tuyen Quang, Cao Bang, Ninh Binh, Nghe An, Ha Tinh and Thanh Hoa... have also decreased by 1,000 VND/kg during the day.
Some provinces such as Hung Yen , Lang Son, Phu Tho and Quang Ninh still maintain the same price, ranging from 62,000 - 63,000 VND/kg.
Pig price in Central Highlands
In the Central region, the price reduction trend spread from the North Central to the South Central provinces. Quang Tri, Thua Thien Hue, Da Nang City, Quang Ngai, Khanh Hoa and Gia Lai all decreased by 1,000 VND/kg, the current common price is from 60,000 - 62,000 VND/kg.
Dak Lak and Lam Dong have not yet made any adjustments, prices remain at 61,000 and 64,000 VND/kg respectively.
Southern pig price
In the South, after many days of stability, today the first decreases were recorded. A series of provinces in the West have decreased by another 1,000 VND/kg compared to the previous day, showing that the downward trend is spreading across the country.
Currently, Ho Chi Minh City and Can Tho have both dropped to 64,000 VND/kg. Vinh Long has adjusted the price to 63,000 VND/kg, while Ca Mau - once the locality with the highest price in the region - has also dropped to 65,000 VND/kg.
Some localities such as Dong Nai (64,000), Tay Ninh (66,000), Dong Thap and An Giang (both 64,000) have not changed prices, but the gap with neighboring areas is narrowing rapidly. This fact shows that the live pig market is entering a period of adjustment after a long period of maintaining high prices.
On July 23, the live pig market nationwide continued to decrease slightly, especially in the Northern and Central provinces.
Through surveys at livestock farms and traders, many provinces and cities have simultaneously reduced prices by 1,000 VND/kg, showing a clear price decline in the context of abundant supply and purchasing power that has not increased strongly.
Analysts said the reason for this price drop could be due to a slight increase in domestic supply, while demand for pork at traditional markets has not recovered as expected despite it being the peak tourist season.
On July 22, the Dong Nai Department of Livestock and Fisheries said that since the beginning of 2025, the locality has had 13 outbreaks of African swine fever, with nearly 4,000 sick pigs destroyed. VNA reported that the number of outbreaks this year has increased by 9 compared to the same period last year.
In the first half of July alone, Dong Nai province recorded three outbreaks of African swine fever. In addition, four pig farms were found to have symptoms suspected of being infected with African swine fever, and authorities took samples for testing.
Dong Nai Department of Livestock and Fisheries said that recently, the authorities have increased inspection and monitoring of the disease situation at livestock farms, thereby promptly handling it by disinfecting, sterilizing, isolating and destroying all infected pigs.
In parallel, Dong Nai province also organized a month of environmental sanitation and disinfection in public areas, markets, and livestock households; at the same time, disinfected vehicles and animal products entering and leaving the area to prevent the spread of pathogens, protect livestock and public health.
In the coming time, Dong Nai province will step up disease surveillance, especially in small-scale livestock farms, and at the same time increase propaganda so that people can proactively implement effective disease prevention measures.
Authorities also recommend that people do not use food of unknown origin, limit people and vehicles from entering and leaving barn areas, and strictly implement biosecurity measures to effectively control diseases.
Currently, Dong Nai province is still applying support policies for households whose pigs are infected with African swine fever and must be destroyed; when people discover pigs showing signs of disease, they need to immediately notify the authorities and absolutely do not bring sick pigs to the market.
Before the merger, Dong Nai province (old) and Binh Phuoc province (old) were two localities with strongly developed livestock farming.
After the merger, Dong Nai became the province with the largest pig herd in the country, with more than 4 million pigs, of which the proportion raised on farms accounted for more than 90% of the total herd.
