Last week, the price of live pigs in the North continued to decrease sharply. According to records, provinces such as Bac Giang, Phu Tho and Vinh Phuc currently have the lowest price in the country, only 66,000 VND/kg. In addition, in Hanoi , Hung Yen, Thai Binh and Nam Dinh, the transaction price fluctuated at 67,000 VND/kg.

At this time, the price of live pigs in the North is around 66,000 - 68,000 VND/kg. Compared to last week, the price has decreased by 4,000 - 6,000 VND/kg.

Pig price in Central Highlands

The Central and Central Highlands regions recorded a slight decrease this week, with prices ranging from VND66,000 to VND73,000 per kg. Thanh Hoa, Nghe An and Ha Tinh currently maintain the price of VND66,000 per kg, while Quang Ngai, Binh Dinh and Quang Nam maintain the price of VND69,000 per kg.

The localities with the highest prices in the region are Lam Dong, Ninh Thuan and Binh Thuan , at 73,000 VND/kg. However, purchasing power in the market is still quite moderate due to concerns about the epidemic and signs of excess supply.

Southern pig price

The South is currently the region with the highest live hog prices in the country, ranging from 72,000 - 77,000 VND/kg. Notably, Ca Mau still maintains the highest price at 77,000 VND/kg, while provinces such as Can Tho, Soc Trang, Kien Giang and Bac Lieu trade at 74,000 - 76,000 VND/kg.

Compared to last week, many provinces in the region have recorded a decrease of 3,000 - 5,000 VND/kg. However, this decrease is not too strong because domestic consumption and export demand remains stable.

At current prices, some experts believe that in early April, the price of live pigs may remain stable or decrease slightly in areas with excess supply. In particular, the North is likely to reach 65,000 VND/kg, while the South can still maintain above 73,000 VND/kg thanks to demand from industrial parks and large distribution systems.

However, the market still faces many challenges as inventories increase, animal feed prices remain high and purchasing power shows no signs of improvement. Some food processing enterprises have begun planning purchases for the April 30 and May 1 holidays, but this has not created a clear momentum for price increases in the market.

In Thuan Thanh Town (Bac Ninh), authorities are implementing measures to control African swine fever. Mr. Nguyen Nhu Quang - Head of the town's Animal Husbandry, Veterinary and Aquatic Products Station said that the total pig herd in the locality has reached more than 65,000, the highest in the province.

Earlier this year, African swine fever was detected in a farm in Ngu Thai commune, resulting in the destruction of four pigs. Thanks to strict control measures, the widespread spread has been prevented. However, the risk of a resurgence remains due to high livestock density and frequent pig transportation.

Currently, Thuan Thanh Town has vaccinated more than 7,400 livestock and built disease-free livestock facilities at two large farms. Disinfection and disease surveillance are also being implemented synchronously throughout the area.
