Dr. Alexander Osterwalder – the inventor of the Business Model Canvas and one of the 10 most influential management thinkers globally – will be in Hanoi on May 28th for the seminar “Innovation for Development, Creativity for Leadership” organized by Vietcombank.
The "Chief Architect" of Modern Business Thinking
According to a BCG report from June 2024, 83% of businesses worldwide view innovation as one of their top three strategic priorities. Restructuring doesn't start with the product, but rather with the business model to achieve sustainable value in a volatile world.
One of the most influential figures in this thinking is Dr. Alexander Osterwalder, the "father" of the Business Model Canvas (BMC) – a business model used by millions of businesses globally, from tech startups to Fortune 500 corporations like Nestlé, Microsoft, Coca-Cola, Mastercard, and Bayer. The BMC describes a company's entire business model on a single page, from customer segments and core values to cost structure and revenue streams. The BMC facilitates internal communication, presentations, and strategic planning.
Not only is he an inventor, but he is also the CEO and founder of Strategyzer, a leading global strategic consulting firm. In addition, he is a visiting lecturer at IMD Business School – a leading business leadership training institution in Switzerland. In the Thinkers50 ranking, considered the "Oscar of management thought," Osterwalder consistently ranks among the top 10 management thinkers in the world, alongside Michael Porter and Clayton Christensen.
At the "Innovation for Development, Creativity for Leadership" workshop organized by Vietcombank on the morning of May 28, 2025, Dr. Osterwalder will directly share insights on: Breakthrough innovation and business model development; and case studies illustrating methods for organizing and operating innovation. Prior to this, Dr. Osterwalder gave a presentation and provided direct consultation to Vietcombank's leadership to develop an innovation strategy for Vietcombank itself.
With his lively, visual, and highly interactive presentation style, Dr. Osterwalder's sharing promises to provide Vietnamese businesses with insightful strategic perspectives that are easy to apply to practical operations and the development of sustainable business models.
A partner mindset that goes beyond the role of a financial institution.
The "Innovation for Development, Creativity for Leadership" workshop is a special program designed specifically for Vietcombank's corporate customer ecosystem – entities that are undergoing transformation, scaling up, and seeking new growth drivers from innovation.
The program was attended by Vietcombank's leadership and the Chairmen, CEOs/Deputy CEOs, and executive board members of major enterprises – the bank's strategic clients. In addition to in-depth presentations, the program also included a live Q&A session, creating opportunities for business leaders to connect with global experts.
In the context of businesses facing numerous pressures from digital transformation, ESG, AI, cross-border competition, etc., inviting leading global management speakers to dialogue with Vietnamese business leaders demonstrates Vietcombank's commitment to supporting them, going beyond the role of a mere financial institution.
Beyond simply providing financial products, the bank aims to create a space for genuine dialogue, where Vietnamese business leaders can directly access global thinking tools and re-evaluate their business models from a new perspective – concise, impactful, and effective.
This seminar also marks the next step in Vietcombank's strategic transformation journey, aiming to be not only a leading financial institution in Vietnam, but also a "thinking partner" for businesses in creating sustainable growth. In addition to this event, from May 26-28, 2025, Vietcombank's Head Office will also host a series of innovation seminars led by senior experts from Strategyzer.
In recent years, Vietcombank has continuously promoted innovation both internally and within its ecosystem, as demonstrated by a series of strategic initiatives. From deploying a corporate data management system and applying artificial intelligence (AI) in credit analysis to digitizing operational processes and enhancing customer experience on the VCB Digibank digital banking platform, Vietcombank is gradually transforming from a traditional bank into a modern digital banking model, integrating technology and innovation in every aspect of its operations.
Furthermore, the bank is also a pioneer in building a collaborative ecosystem with fintech companies, startups, and technology partners, expanding the "open innovation" mindset. The workshop with Dr. Alexander Osterwalder was not only an inspiring event but also part of Vietcombank's comprehensive effort to build an organization with sustainable innovation capabilities – where innovation stems not only from technology but also from the leadership's mindset.
