According to Ms. Nguyen Thanh Binh - Deputy Head of Accommodation Management Department (National Tourism Administration), the development target of Vietnam tourism by 2025 is to become an attractive destination with high tourism development capacity in the world . Striving to welcome 25 - 28 million international visitors, 130 million domestic visitors; tourism contribution to GDP from 8 - 9%; creating 6.3 million jobs (about 2.1 million direct jobs), about 1.3 million accommodation rooms.
“To contribute to achieving the above goal, digital transformation in the accommodation industry is not only an inevitable trend but also a mandatory requirement in the context of increasingly fierce competition today,” Ms. Nguyen Thanh Binh emphasized.
According to Ms. Do Hong Xoan - Vice President of Vietnam Tourism Association, President of Vietnam Hotel Association, AI is not only changing the way businesses operate but also reshaping the way services are managed in the hotel industry.

And the challenges
Deputy Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Da Nang Nguyen Thi Hoai An emphasized that in today's development trend, the housekeeping department, which directly creates satisfaction and impressions for guests, needs to quickly adapt, improve management skills, and take advantage of technology for effective transformation.
However, according to Mr. Nguyen Quang - Vice President of Vietnam Hotel Association, Chairman of VEHA, deploying new technologies, especially applying AI to hotel management and operations is not simple. From investing in technology to investing in people, everything needs to be carefully considered.
There are many challenges such as the shortage of AI-savvy human resources, the easy leakage of personal data (facial recognition) which can cause legal consequences; excessive automation reduces the human service experience; the balance between technology and service culture with strong Vietnamese identity; old management systems are difficult to integrate with new AI technology; concerns about job loss due to AI.

Mr. Nguyen Quang noted that the initial cost of implementing AI solutions will be high, especially for small hotels, while it is difficult to determine the investment efficiency, scalability and customization of expensive AI solutions. Therefore, if the effectiveness of the technology is not promoted, it will be wasted.
However, through comparing and evaluating the benefits and challenges of applying AI to hotel management in general and Housekeeping in particular, Mr. Nguyen Quang recommends: “The application of technology sooner or later is indispensable in modern hotel management and operations. If we are not proactive and determined in implementing it, we will miss the opportunity to pioneer.”
