* The live pig market in the North recorded no new price changes compared to yesterday.

Accordingly, the highest transaction level in the region was recorded in Bac Giang, Hung Yen, Thai Nguyen, Phu Tho, Thai Binh, Vinh Phuc, Hanoi and Tuyen Quang at 58,000 VND/kg.

Pigs in the remaining provinces are purchased at the same price of 57,000 VND/kg.

Today's live pig price in the North is around 57,000 - 58,000 VND/kg.

* Pig prices in the Central and Central Highlands regions are quiet.

Specifically, traders in Dak Lak province are still purchasing live pigs at the lowest price in the region of 55,000 VND/kg.

Live pigs in Binh Thuan , Ninh Thuan, Binh Dinh and Khanh Hoa are being traded at a common price of 56,000 VND/kg. 57,000 VND/kg is the price of live pigs recorded in the remaining provinces.

Currently, the price of live pigs in the Central and Central Highlands regions is around 55,000 - 57,000 VND/kg.

* In the Southern region, pig prices also remained stable following the general trend.

Currently, the price of live pigs in the provinces of Binh Phuoc, Binh Duong, Vung Tau, Long An, Tra Vinh and Ben Tre is 56,000 VND/kg - the lowest in the region.

On the contrary, 58,000 VND/kg is the highest transaction threshold in the region, currently present in Can Tho, Ca Mau, Bac Lieu and Soc Trang. The remaining provinces in the region maintain stable purchasing prices at 57,000 VND/kg.

The price of live pigs in the Southern region today fluctuates between 56,000 - 58,000 VND/kg.

* Mr. Nguyen Van Trong, former Deputy Director of the Department of Animal Husbandry (Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development) commented that the price of live pigs has decreased due to the large amount of live pigs smuggled from Thailand across the border into Vietnam.

The reason is that the price of Vietnamese live pigs is about 10,000 VND/kg higher than that of Thai live pigs. Besides, this is the 7th lunar month, Vu Lan season, so people in the South eat vegetarian food a lot, while people in the North, this is the Ngau month, they avoid weddings and engagements, causing demand to drop sharply.

According to Mr. Nguyen Van Trong, the price of live pigs in Thailand is always lower than that of Vietnam, on the other hand, their supply has been abundant recently. The open market has led to Thai live pigs seeping into the Vietnamese market.

"With the current price of live pigs, large enterprises are not affected, but small-scale farmers have just recovered a little profit when the price of pigs drops again. Small-scale farmers have to buy pig breeds and animal feed, so the price of live pigs must be 60,000 VND/kg to make a profit. Although the price of animal feed has decreased by 5-6% at this time, it is not much, the cost is still high," Mr. Nguyen Van Trong assessed.
