For the 2023-2024 coffee season, prices and production have improved significantly after many difficult years due to crop failures and low prices. However, Gia Lai coffee growers are still concerned about coffee theft.
Nguyen Duc Tan, Chairman of the Ia Krai Commune People’s Committee, said the commune has established 15 security teams with 48 members to patrol. The authorities also require agricultural businesses not to buy unripe coffee or coffee from unknown sources, especially from underage children. Suspicious cases must be reported immediately to the police.
Thefts are not only happening in Ia Grai but also in Duc Co, Dak Doa districts and Pleiku city. Many coffee gardens have had their fruits stolen and trees destroyed by thieves, forcing farmers to install cameras and set up tents to guard them all night.
Faced with this situation, Gia Lai Provincial Police recommend that farmers proactively protect their property by installing lighting, security cameras and alarm bells.

The Import-Export Department (Ministry of Industry and Trade) forecasts that pepper exports will face difficulties at the end of this year due to limited supply and low demand from China. It is expected that in early 2025, the situation will be more positive with a forecast of strong demand from this market.
Experts forecast a positive outlook for pepper consumption at the end of the year thanks to demand from China and the festive season. However, next year’s pepper harvest may be delayed by a month, affecting supply.
According to experts, domestic pepper prices are likely to remain below VND150,000/kg due to rising gold and USD prices and the upcoming coffee harvest. Vietnam’s pepper export prices remain stable at high levels due to scarce supply.
