Farmers worry about rising fertilizer prices, hope they will stabilize soon
According to Can Tho Newspaper, recently, the price of rice and many agricultural products has not been as high as last year. Meanwhile, the price of many types of fertilizer has continuously increased in the past three months. Compared to the beginning of 2025 and the same period last year, the current price has skyrocketed.
Inorganic fertilizers, especially DAP and urea, recorded the strongest increase, with each 50kg bag increasing from several tens to several hundreds of thousands of VND. Meanwhile, NPK, potassium and phosphate fertilizers also increased but less.
The reason for this price increase is not only due to domestic supply and demand but also affected by the world market. Vietnam still has to import many types of fertilizers and production materials. The increase in world prices along with the escalating input costs such as electricity, gasoline, labor and transportation has directly affected domestic prices.
In addition, import difficulties and additional costs have affected the supply of fertilizers. Many intermediaries also cause the selling price to farmers to be higher than the original price from the factory or import hub. This situation not only puts pressure on farmers but also on fertilizer traders and retailers, all of whom hope that fertilizer prices will soon decrease again.
The high price of fertilizer has increased the cost of producing rice and other crops, creating many risks, especially in the context of agricultural output prices no longer being as attractive as before. Farmers are worried about sharp declines in profits and difficulties in capital management, especially when agricultural material dealers limit short sales.
People hope that the authorities will soon find a solution to reduce the price of fertilizers and essential materials, and stabilize the output of agricultural products so that production can be assured. It is necessary to strengthen market control, fight against counterfeit and poor quality goods to protect the rights of consumers.
In addition, the agricultural sector also needs to strengthen training and guidance for farmers to apply technical advances, proactively prevent pests and diseases, and save input costs, thereby improving production efficiency in the current difficult context.
