According to statistics from the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Lam Dong province, the whole province currently has more than 25,600 hectares of durian, with an annual output of about 175,000 tons. The three localities leading in area and output are Da Huoai, Di Linh, and Bao Lam, accounting for more than 80% of the province's total output.

However, the reality of recent years shows that whenever durian prices "go up", massive new plantings will come with consequences such as oversupply, falling prices, difficulty in controlling quality, violating export standards... If not controlled from the beginning, the target of 25,800 hectares will not only not help farmers get better but can also create a new "agricultural bubble".

Lam Dong province's agricultural sector is coordinating with the Department of Cultivation and Plant Protection to strengthen inspection and supervision of growing area codes, especially areas that have been warned of violations by the General Administration of Customs of China.

"Developing durian trees is the right trend, but it must follow the right roadmap, the right techniques, and the right standards. That is the way for this tree to become a sustainable 'export spearhead', not a race for the masses," the Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Lam Dong province emphasized.

To confirm the quality of durian in the province, recently, the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Lam Dong province took nearly 760 durian samples to analyze pesticide residues and heavy metals, of which no samples were contaminated with O-yellow, cadmium or lead.
