Pepper prices fell 4.6% last week, according to the latest report from Ptexim. The main reason is the uncertainty in the US tax policy, which has caused importers' confidence to drop significantly. At the same time, inventories in bonded warehouses in the US and EU are decreasing rapidly. However, due to the uncertainty about the new tax rate, many importers are pausing to sign new orders and waiting for the results of negotiations in the coming weeks.
If the parties reach a stable and reasonable tariff agreement, import demand could increase sharply. Many businesses need to replenish their inventories after a period of moderate imports in recent months.
Meanwhile, the cost of shipping goods to the EU and US markets has skyrocketed by 20-30% in just one week. The main reason is that Chinese businesses have increased exports to the US while waiting for the reciprocal tariffs to be applied, causing a sudden increase in demand for containers and shipping vessels.
