Experts believe that pepper prices will continue to increase in 2025 due to factors such as reduced global supply, high transportation costs and interest rate cuts from the US Federal Reserve (FED), which could stimulate consumption demand in major markets such as the US and EU.
Although Vietnam exported 250,000 tons of pepper worth $1.3 billion in 2024, the highest level since 2017, the pepper industry still faces difficulties such as unfavorable weather, rising production costs and the risk of disease. In addition, some farmers have switched to other crops with higher profits such as durian and coffee, causing the pepper growing area to decrease.
According to data from the China Customs Administration, in the first 11 months of 2024, China imported 9,677 tons of pepper worth 54.4 million USD, up 15.1% in volume and 42.1% in value compared to the previous year. Of which, Indonesia was the main supplier with 5,141 tons, accounting for 56.2% of the market share, while Vietnam supplied 3,021 tons, accounting for 31.2% of the market share, in total these two countries accounted for 87.5% of China's pepper imports.

The Cambodia Pepper and Spices Federation (CPSF) said the agreement on pepper export protocol to China has boosted Cambodia's pepper industry and is expected to bring an important market for pepper growers in the country.
According to the CPSF, Cambodia’s pepper exports to China are expected to increase sharply by 2025 as many export companies are stepping up efforts to penetrate this market. Currently, the pepper growing area in Cambodia reaches nearly 7,000 hectares with an average output of over 18,000 tons.
Vietnam is Cambodia’s largest pepper consumer market. In addition, the country also exports geographically indicated (GI) pepper from Kampot to countries in the European Union.
