Analysts say the hope of an end to the Russia-Ukraine conflict could pave the way for easing sanctions on Russian crude and increasing global supplies. If a ceasefire is not reached, oil prices could rebound.
Following a White House meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and European allies, and a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin, the United States is arranging a meeting between the Russian and Ukrainian presidents, Reuters reported. In fact, oil prices have fallen nearly 10% this month, weighed down by trade tensions and rising OPEC+ production. Analysts told Reuters that any resolution to the Russia-Ukraine conflict could lead to an end to sanctions on Russian energy exports, allowing Russian crude to trade freely, which would ease supply disruption concerns.
Domestically, the retail price of gasoline and oil will be adjusted by the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Industry and Trade from tomorrow afternoon (August 21). It is forecasted that gasoline prices may increase slightly, by around 100 VND/liter; oil prices may decrease by over 200 VND/liter. This forecast does not include the Gasoline Price Stabilization Fund and other fees, if any changes occur.
The Ministry of Industry and Trade is also seeking comments on a draft circular regulating the roadmap for applying the blending ratio of biofuels with traditional fuels in Vietnam. According to this draft, from January 1, 2026, E10 RON95-III biofuel will be sold nationwide. This product is currently being sold on a pilot basis in Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi and Hai Phong./.
