750,000 card milestone and the numbers speak for themselves
In November 2018, when launching a new set of credit cards in a personalized direction with specialized card lines, VIB began a transformation in its card development strategy, focusing on customers. Positioned as a leading bank in card trends, VIB has written the story of an innovative bank, contributing to shaping the cashless payment market in Vietnam.
After more than 6 years, VIB has conquered important milestones one after another. In July 2022, the bank recorded 500,000 credit cards issued. By June 2024, VIB reached 750,000 cards. Compared to 2018 when it first started restructuring the card segment, the scale of VIB credit cards has increased more than 8 times.

By closely following customers' credit card spending needs and creating high-quality products with outstanding utility, VIB has continuously led the card segment in the market. In the first half of 2024, VIB card spending reached nearly VND 59,000 billion (over USD 2.3 billion), equivalent to an average monthly spending of nearly VND 10,000 billion per VIB cardholder.
Along with that, the number of transactions via VIB cards reached nearly 18 million, an increase of 22% compared to the first 6 months of 2023.
VIB is the leading bank in terms of growth rate in the first 6 months of 2024. Total spending via VIB cards in the first months of the year increased by 42.85% compared to the same period in 2023. Of which, domestic spending via VIB cards had an impressive growth rate of 45.2%, as a result of the bank promoting the design of features, utilities, and incentives for cardholders.
In the first half of 2024 alone, average spending via VIB - Mastercard card reached 4,200 USD/card, equivalent to more than 107 million VND/card, surpassing the market average.
Both direct and online spending via VIB cards increased sharply. Direct spending (via POS, contactless payment) increased by 48.3%, while online spending increased by 24.6% compared to the same period last year.
These telling numbers come from VIB's methodical investment in the credit card ecosystem over many years with the goal of bringing products that lead in technology, incentives and user experience.
Technology creates card trends
Right from the beginning of the new strategy for the card segment in 2018, VIB determined that the card products born from here must have high technology content, be modern and bring many benefits to users.
Every touchpoint on the VIB card journey with customers has the mark of technology, from the card opening stage to paying off outstanding debt, changing cashback categories, accumulating points, choosing automatic payment rates and statement dates, registering for installments, locking and unlocking cards...
In 2020, VIB was one of the first banks in Vietnam to issue credit cards completely online and is the leading bank in applying virtual card technology, thanks to which customers do not need a physical card to be able to pay anytime, anywhere.
At the same time, VIB integrates leading modern technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning, hyper-realistic 3D simulation technology... into Vie - the first virtual financial expert in Vietnam launched in July 2022 and applies Vie to the QR code on the back of VIB credit cards to support customers anytime, anywhere.
At the Vietnam Business Messaging Awards 2023, virtual finance expert Vie was honored by Meta as the most innovative solution to unlock the power of conversational marketing.
VIB is also one of the first banks in Vietnam to deploy contactless payment solutions such as Google Pay, Apple Pay, Garmin Pay and Samsung Pay. Accordingly, with just a phone or smart watch, VIB cardholders can easily spend at contactless payment acceptance points.
Comprehensive offers, the more you spend, the more you save
Many of VIB's card lines offer cashback, bonus points and gifts to customers, including some that are leading the market in terms of cashback rates.
In addition, VIB cooperates with 150 strategic partners to meet all spending needs of customers with 5 main categories including travel (VIB Travel), restaurants (VIB Dine), shopping (VIB Shop), transportation (VIB Move), and promotions in other categories (VIB More).
