Reduce pressure on children.

Báo Đại Đoàn KếtBáo Đại Đoàn Kết22/03/2025

How to ensure children grow up without pressure is a question that many people ponder. Recognizing the causes of this situation, families, schools, and society must work together to protect and care for children, giving them the best possible opportunities.

Pressure from grades and achievements.

According to Le Anh Vinh, Director of the Vietnam Institute of Educational Sciences, many studies have shown that at the primary school level, students should not be pressured by the amount of knowledge, achievements, or grades. Instead, they need to be trained in character, attitude, and essential skills to be confident and resilient in life. This is a crucial foundational stage for a child's holistic development. However, we often focus too much on easily measurable things, such as grades or exam results, turning them into expectations, forgetting that the most important thing is to help children build a solid foundation and confidence to continue on the long road ahead.

According to the 2025 Regulations on Secondary and High School Admissions of the Ministry of Education and Training , the application of a unified admission method nationwide for students entering grade 6 aims to reduce academic pressure, avoid the situation where each locality has its own admission method leading to inequality, and prevent students from having to take extra classes to prepare for the entrance exam.

Similarly, the high school graduation exam, with two compulsory subjects and two elective subjects, has also reduced the number of subjects compared to previous years. This not only helps reduce exam pressure but also allows students to choose subjects that suit their abilities, interests, and career aspirations, which is highly valued and welcomed by society.

Recently, Circular 29's regulation prohibiting extra tutoring for primary school students, except for training in arts, sports, and life skills, has been welcomed by the public because it helps children live their childhood to the fullest, allowing them to play, have fun, and learn essential knowledge and skills outside of school hours. Prior to this, the Ministry of Education and Training had already made changes to regulations on testing and evaluating the learning process for primary school students, focusing on developing learners' competencies, not only evaluating by scores but also by comments and assessments of each student's progress...

A series of solutions implemented by the education sector in recent times have been highly praised by experts for helping to reduce pressure on children. However, the pressure for achievement and grades, stemming from the family and surrounding social environment, prevents children from experiencing the joy and innocence appropriate for their age.

Associate Professor Tran Thanh Nam - Vice Rector of the University of Education (Vietnam National University, Hanoi) pointed out that we are currently living in a world of pressure. Parents are under pressure, teachers are under pressure, and so are children. Therefore, it is important for parents and teachers to equip children with skills to develop their abilities and improve their capacity to adapt to pressure, helping them face pressure more positively.

Give the best to children.

According to Trieu Thi Thanh Ha, Principal of Vinh Yen Secondary School (Vinh Phuc province), besides focusing on solutions to improve the quality of education, the school pursues a strategy of balancing students' psychology and play, so that every day at school is a joyful one. Accordingly, the school continuously organizes appropriate group activities and encourages student participation, such as folk dancing, group performances, "Ringing the Golden Bell" competitions, and sports and art clubs. The school also invites psychologists to "relieve stress" for students through talks on Gen Z, school mental health, and preventing school violence. Professional workshops and life skills sessions also create a relaxed atmosphere for both teachers and students. Therefore, students here study hard and play hard, helping to awaken their creativity and talents, resulting in many high achievements in competitions at all levels.

The perspective of "putting children at the center, giving them the best," and listening to and responding to their thoughts and aspirations has been mentioned many times, but implementing it in practice is not easy for families, schools, and society. Accordingly, parents must fulfill their responsibility to nurture and educate their children to become useful citizens, to keep up with and adapt to the current scientific and technological revolution, but they also need to encourage and understand their children so as not to burden them with excessive pressure that could affect their psychological and physical development.

According to Ha Dinh Bon, Vice President of the Vietnam Association for the Protection of Children's Rights, in the coming time, it is necessary to continue improving the system of policies and laws on protecting and caring for children. This includes building and promulgating mechanisms to comprehensively and fully implement all of children's rights, ensuring that no right is neglected and that all rights are implemented harmoniously and reasonably.
