Supervision of support for the Vitamin A supplementation campaign combined with deworming for children and health activities under the National Target Program for Sustainable Poverty Reduction

On July 23-25, 2025, the Center for Disease Control monitored the implementation of Vitamin A and deworming activities in the first phase of 2025 and medical activities under the National Target Program for Sustainable Poverty Reduction at 6 Health Stations: Hoa Thuan and My Hung (Phuc Hoa commune); Kim Dong (Kim Dong commune); Duc Thong (Canh Tan commune); Thanh Nhat (Ha Lang commune) and Vinh Quy commune.

Through monitoring, it is shown that the Health Stations have a plan to implement the activities of taking vitamin A and deworming medicine according to the program's instructions. Prepare all necessary tools, enough vitamin A for children from 6 to 60 months old, deworming medicine for children from 24 to 60 months old; arrange vitamin A and deworming medicine points according to the correct procedure; give children vitamin A and deworming medicine in the correct dosage and in the correct way; have books and records of the distribution of nutritional products, vitamin A and deworming medicine...

Along with that, the Health Stations have done a good job of communication such as: Hanging banners, pasting posters, propagating on loudspeakers and directly consulting mothers with children under 5 years old about the benefits of vitamin A, the benefits of breastfeeding, how to take care of nutrition in the first 1,000 days of life for children; how to use and properly process foods rich in micronutrients... In the first phase of the Vitamin A supplement and deworming campaign for children in 2025, the whole province had 37,201 children taking vitamin A, reaching 99.3%; 28,981 children taking deworming medicine, reaching 95% of the plan.

Medical activities under the National Target Program for Sustainable Poverty Reduction, the Health Stations have developed plans to implement the Program; organized investigations and surveys to classify the nutritional status of children from 0 to under 16 years old. The number of malnourished and stunted children under 5 years old has been supported with nutritional products. The rate of children under 2 years old receiving proper and adequate supplementary food reached over 70%. The number of pregnant women receiving multi-micronutrient supplements reached 100%.

As a result, at Hoa Thuan Medical Station, the number of children under 5 years old with underweight malnutrition was 40/291 children, accounting for 13.7%; the number of children under 5 years old with stunted malnutrition was 44/291 children, accounting for 15.12%; the rate of stunted malnutrition in children from 5 to under 16 years old was 15/122 children. At My Hung Medical Station, the rate of children under 5 years old with stunted malnutrition was 13/130 children, accounting for 10%; the rate of children under 5 years old with emaciated malnutrition was 5/130 children, accounting for 3%; the rate of children from 5 to under 16 years old with stunted malnutrition was 12/115 children, accounting for 10.4%.

The Center for Disease Control supervises health check-ups for children at Duc Thong Health Station (Canh Tan commune).

Kim Dong Commune Health Station has 18/161 children under 5 years old with underweight malnutrition, accounting for 11.1%; 30/161 children under 5 years old with stunting malnutrition, accounting for 18.6%; the rate of stunting malnutrition in children from 5 to under 16 years old is 32/539 children, accounting for 6%. Duc Thong Health Station has 2/116 children under 5 years old with underweight malnutrition; 18/116 children under 5 years old with stunting malnutrition; 59/374 children from 5 to under 16 years old with stunting malnutrition.

Thanh Nhat Health Station has 38/312 children under 5 years old with underweight malnutrition; 45/312 children under 5 years old with stunting malnutrition; the rate of stunting malnutrition in children from 5 to under 16 years old is 125/1305 children, accounting for 9.5%. Vinh Quy Commune Health Station has 20/92 children under 5 years old with underweight malnutrition; 8/92 children under 5 years old with stunting malnutrition, accounting for 8.7%; the rate of stunting malnutrition in children from 5 to under 16 years old is 38/266 children, accounting for 14.3%.

To continue to effectively improve the nutritional status of children in the area, the communes proposed to provide additional child scales, height measuring rulers, deworming mortars, nutrition practice kits, and additional posters and communication leaflets for the campaign to be more effective.
