This was shared at the celebration of the 50th anniversary of Ho Chi Minh City's education and training sector and the 43rd anniversary of Vietnamese Teachers' Day (November 20), held at the Thong Nhat Hall and organized by the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee this morning, November 20.
5 bright spots in Ho Chi Minh City's education system.
Mr. Pham Ngoc Thuong said that if we consider 1945, the year the country gained independence and the revolutionary education system of Vietnam was born, then Ho Chi Minh City officially took on the task of building its education system 30 years later.
Taking over a large metropolis and facing countless challenges regarding infrastructure, staffing, and educational programs, Ho Chi Minh City's education system, thanks to its courage, intelligence, and willingness to innovate, has managed to "start late and finish early."
"Ho Chi Minh City's education system has become one of the leading intellectual hubs in the country, the birthplace of many innovative models that have spread to other provinces and cities," Mr. Thuong assessed.
Mr. Thuong said that Ho Chi Minh City's education and training sector has five bright spots. These are focusing on raising the intellectual level of the people, building a learning society, and lifelong learning.
The city has invested in human resource training and talent development through advanced school models, international integration, application of information technology, and digital transformation.
This locality has also made early and systematic preparations for the goal of making English the second language, along with many international learning activities.
In addition, Ho Chi Minh City has focused on moral education, life skills, civic awareness, and community spirit, being the first locality to issue a set of criteria for "Happy Schools".
The city also has a vibrant school sports movement, with most students knowing how to play at least one sport or musical instrument. This has also promoted the socialization of education, helping to reduce the burden on the public system and create more learning opportunities for the people.
"Whenever there are natural disasters, storms, or floods in other places, students and teachers in Ho Chi Minh City are always at the forefront of donating, supporting, and sharing. Many programs connect, provide professional support, train teachers, and share successful models."
"It can be seen that education and training in Ho Chi Minh City have developed comprehensively in both quality and quantity, from mass education to specialized education, from teaching literacy to teaching character," Mr. Thuong affirmed.

Comprehensive reform
Fifty years is considered a milestone marking the transformation and brilliant development of Ho Chi Minh City's education and training sector.
At the ceremony, Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee Nguyen Van Duoc presented the traditional flag to the Department of Education and Training, recognizing the outstanding achievements of the sector over the past period.
Speaking on this special occasion, Mr. Nguyen Van Duoc emphasized that over the past 50 years, the education and training sector has made new strides, leaving its mark with many outstanding achievements.
"Ho Chi Minh City has always been proud of its team of teachers, who are not only excellent in their profession but also rich in character, always dynamic, creative, and at the forefront of all emulation movements," Mr. Duoc stated.
The Chairman of the People's Committee of Ho Chi Minh City expects and believes that with the efforts and high sense of responsibility of the staff and teachers, educational institutions will continue to build upon the achievements already made and do even better in the future.
Mr. Được suggested that the city's education and training sector should strive for comprehensive reform to build a team of teachers who are strong in professional expertise and serve as shining examples of morality. Along with this, there should be fundamental and comprehensive reforms in management, teaching methods, and a deep focus on moral education, lifestyle, and skills development.
"The education and training sector of Ho Chi Minh City needs to effectively and successfully implement the 'Happy School' criteria at 100% of educational institutions in the city so that teachers and students find joy, happiness, safety, respect, and motivation for sustainable development," the Chairman of the People's Committee of Ho Chi Minh City emphasized.

Energetic and daring to think and act.
According to Mr. Nguyen Van Hieu, Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training, after the reunification of the country, Ho Chi Minh City embarked on a comprehensive reconstruction effort, in which education was considered one of the top priority areas.
Despite facing numerous difficulties and shortages, from infrastructure to staffing, it is precisely in these challenging times that the city leaders' sense of responsibility and deep concern are clearly demonstrated.
"With the love for the profession, the desire to contribute, and the dynamism, creativity, and boldness of tens of thousands of teachers, the city's education sector has overcome the most difficult period in its 50-year history. This has created a solid foundation for the long-term development of education in Ho Chi Minh City," Mr. Hieu stated.
