Korean businesses highly appreciate the Hafam 6 chili variety and are willing to purchase chili fruit to use as a spice to make kimchi.
The Fruit and Vegetable Research Institute (Vietnam Academy of Agricultural Sciences ) has just worked with the Farmers' Association of Van Thuy commune (Chi Lang, Lang Son) to evaluate the demonstration production model of the Hafam 6 f1 hybrid chili pepper variety. Participating in the evaluation of the model, in addition to local farmers, there are also a number of businesses from Korea.

The Hafam 6 chili pepper growing model covers an area of nearly 2 hectares in Ban Du village (Van Thuy commune) in the spring-summer crop of 2024. Currently, chili peppers are being harvested in abundance, with an average yield of 22.5 tons of fruit/ha (8.3 quintals of fruit/360m2 pole), with good intensive farming households achieving a yield of more than 10 quintals/pole.
Mr. Vi Van Phuong planted 5 sao of Hafam 6 chili in the model, and expected to harvest 4.5 tons of chili by the end of the harvest, equivalent to an average yield of 900kg/sao (24.3 tons/ha). Mr. Phuong said that the Hafam 6 chili variety only gives the same yield as the control variety (VA.99999) but has the advantage of larger fruits, more concentrated ripening, and a shorter growing period of about 15 days, thereby allowing for additional winter crop production after the spring-summer chili harvest (planting potatoes, waxy corn or short-term vegetables). In addition, the Hafam 6 chili variety also has good resistance to pests and diseases, especially anthracnose.

Mr. Kim Dong Won - Chairman of Five Agency Co. Ltd and Mr. Lee - Chairman of KoFarm Company (Korea) after visiting the model both highly appreciated the Hafam 6 chili variety and expressed their willingness to purchase chili fruit to make kimchi seasoning. However, the current production scale is still quite small (nearly 2 hectares), so it is necessary to expand the area to a larger area to have enough volume to periodically purchase 1 20-foot container (20 tons) of fresh chili per week (7 days), and at the same time, it is necessary to have a cold storage to store the fruit.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Thoan, Chairwoman of the Farmers' Association of Van Thuy commune, said that chili is one of the main agricultural crops of Chi Lang district with a growing area ranging from 300 - 700 hectares/year, the product is mainly exported to China, so the growing area and price of chili often fluctuate. Now that scientists have come to transfer new varieties, intensive farming techniques and introduce purchasing businesses, people are very excited.
Currently, chili plants in Chi Lang are rotated with wet rice in the summer-autumn crop, which greatly reduces pests and diseases. Thanks to the off-season cultivation of chili in spring and summer compared to chili-growing localities in our country and China, if production is well organized, the potential for chili cultivation development in Lang Son is still very large.
Besides the demonstration production of the hot chili variety f1 Hafam 6 in Van Thuy commune, the Vegetable and Fruit Research Institute also tested the cultivation of some other hot chili varieties such as TV1, TV3, TV3, TV4, which were initially evaluated by local farmers as very promising.

The Hafam 6 hot pepper variety is an F1 hybrid variety created by Master Dang Hiep Hoa and his colleagues at the Department of Vegetables and Spices (Vegetable and Fruit Research Institute), announced in 2023 and produced with good results in many different ecological regions across the country such as Phu Tho, Thai Binh...
The variety has the characteristics of healthy growth and development; good resistance to pests and diseases, early and concentrated fruit harvest, high yield (22.5 - 27.4 tons/ha); the fruit is only in the sky, good quality, when ripe the fruit skin turns red, suitable for domestic consumption and meets export requirements.
