Formed from the Canh River, with 23 main branches spreading throughout Vinh Yen city, Dam Vac Lake has long played an important role in regulating water, sub-regional climate and supplying water for production and daily life of thousands of households. With the rapid urbanization, today, this large lake area has taken on a new look thanks to projects with a total investment of thousands of billions of VND, notably: Song Hong Resort, Westlake Hotel & Resort, Dam Vac Golf Course, Dam Vac Bridge... becoming symbols, highlights of urban space, attracting a large number of tourists to visit and relax every weekend.

Therefore, the protection of surface water environment and water security of Dam Vac Lake has always been of concern and focus to all levels, sectors of the province and local authorities.

Identifying the particularly important role of water resources in the socio-economic development of the province in general and Dam Vac Lake in particular, the provincial Party Committee and authorities have stepped up the implementation of propaganda solutions, raising awareness and responsibility of the people in protecting Dam Vac Lake. Strengthening inspection and handling of illegal discharges into the lake; strictly prohibiting acts of leveling, encroachment and illegal use of the lake surface area.

At the same time, issue plans and projects to preserve and promote the value of Dam Vac in association with tourism development: Project to dredge and preserve Dam Vac landscape; invest in building a closed walking path around Dam Vac lake... This is also an important basis for the province to organize and establish regional planning, plans for lakes, ponds, and lagoons that are not allowed to be filled in to protect and prevent depletion of water resources and respond to climate change.

From the evening of June 20 to 21, the province experienced moderate to heavy rain, and in some places very heavy rain. As a result, water hyacinth covered many areas of Dam Vac Lake, especially the section bordering Lam Son Road, Tich Son Ward (Vinh Yen).

Faced with the risk of the “green lung” being invaded by water hyacinth, some businesses have proactively implemented plans to collect and clear the flow to improve drainage capacity and limit the growth of water hyacinth. This activity has received support from the community living around the lake, creating a positive change in the work of protecting the environment of surface water sources.

One of the projects contributing to building Vinh Phuc into a green, environmentally friendly city is the Dam Vac dredging and landscape conservation project. Started in January 2023 with a total investment of more than 270 billion VND, this is a project under component 1 of the Program for developing type II cities (green cities) - a component project of Vinh Phuc province with a loan from the Asian Development Bank (ADB).

According to the design, the project includes dredging the Dam Vac lake within a 60ha area in the West, located within the boundary between Kim Ngoc - Dam Vac Bridge and Vinh Yen Street. At the same time, the lake will be embanked and a walking path over 3km long will be built to prevent re-encroachment and increase water storage capacity. After completion, the project will gradually solve the province's drainage problem, while creating a new space for recreation and entertainment for the people.

In addition to the above project, in order to manage, exploit and further promote the value of Dam Vac Lake, the Provincial Party Committee Standing Committee has assigned the Provincial People's Committee to direct relevant departments and branches to research, develop, and plan to protect and promote the value of Dam Vac Lake, Vinh Yen City. The research plan proposes a preliminary planning with an area of nearly 300 hectares, including 157 hectares of the main lake area.

The total investment capital is about 1,200 billion VND, implemented in the period of 2025 - 2028, with items such as: Walking path system connecting spaces around the lake, sports park system, ecological landscape park, light park, water music square...

At the same time, investing in building a wastewater collection and treatment system to control and clean the water source. The planning scheme also creates a connection between Dam Vac Lake and surrounding areas, contributing to urban beautification, completing infrastructure, landscape architecture around the lake and neighboring areas; gradually realizing the goal of becoming a high-class tourist and resort destination, connected with nature, attracting more and more domestic and international tourists to Vinh Phuc.

With the synchronous implementation of many solutions, the proactive and active participation of departments, branches and localities, the management and protection of Dam Vac Lake continues to be effective, ensuring biodiversity, preventing natural disasters and responding to climate change. At the same time, the urban architecture of Vinh Phuc has been gradually formed to be spacious and modern, meeting the socio-economic development programs and goals of the province in the new period.
