Solid foundation - wide path for development

Since being recognized as a civilized urban area in 2024, Tan Chau ward has entered a new, more modern development phase, aiming towards the image of a smart urban area. Over the years, with the spirit of solidarity and constant efforts of the Party Committee, the government and the people in the ward, Tan Chau has gradually affirmed its position, becoming a commercial - service - cultural center of the northern region of An Giang .

Tan Chau Ward was established on the basis of merging the entire natural area and population of Long Thanh and Long Son wards, with an area of 17.39 km ² , a population of 33,506 people with 6,901 households, divided into 7 hamlets. The ward has a strategic location, is the connecting point between the Long Xuyen - Chau Doc - Tan Chau development triangle, playing an important role in connecting trade, defense, security and urban development orientation in the upstream area. For a long time, the ward has been famous as a bustling commercial land, once considered the most prosperous district in the South before 1975.

On the journey of building a civilized urban area, over the past 5 years, the Ward Party Committee has led the political system and the People to complete 13/13 targets of the term resolution, of which 6 targets were exceeded. Many key infrastructure projects have been invested, such as the Vinh An canal residential area; Nguyen Tri Phuong, Nguyen Cong Nhan, Ton Duc Thang streets; provincial roads 952, 953, 954... In which, the people and the State contributed more than 10.5 billion VND to build 35 spacious alleys, contributing to changing the urban appearance.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Kim Loan, resident of Long Thanh D hamlet, shared: “Before, this area was muddy and lacked light, but now the roads are concrete and have lights. Everyone is conscious of keeping clean, not littering, and trading in designated areas. The ward is now changing every day, becoming more beautiful, civilized, and safer.”

The emulation movements of “Skilled Civil Affairs”, “Friendly Government”, “Fire Prevention and Fighting - Security Camera Inter-family Group” have been widely replicated, spreading the spirit of civilized living in each residential area. The streets are widened, paved with concrete, and have lighting systems. Small parks and community living areas have gradually become green highlights for the young urban area of Tan Chau today.

Maintain the title, elevate the urban area

According to the Standing Deputy Secretary of the Tan Chau Ward Party Committee, Vo Thi Kim Dinh, the title of civilized urban area is not only a recognition but also a turning point affirming the determination towards sustainable development of the locality, creating momentum for the ward to grow strongly in the period 2025 - 2030. "To maintain and improve the quality of the title of civilized urban area, the ward will synchronously implement planning - infrastructure - people. Each project, each route must be associated with a civilized lifestyle and community awareness", said Ms. Vo Thi Kim Dinh.

Besides the achievements, Tan Chau ward still faces many difficulties and challenges. The ward's infrastructure is not yet synchronized, some roads are still flooded in the rainy season. Investment resources are still limited. The ward lacks "strategic" investors in the fields of trade, services, and tourism .

Faced with that reality, Tan Chau ward continues to improve urban infrastructure, improve environmental landscape associated with digital technology application. At the same time, review and adjust land use planning in accordance with the general planning of the province. The ward government actively mobilizes social resources, encourages businesses and people to participate in renovating and expanding public infrastructure, creating a new look for the urban area.

To maintain and improve the quality of a civilized urban ward, in the coming time, Tan Chau will continue to implement many key projects, such as: Completing legal procedures to help businesses start construction of the new Sao Mai urban area soon; continuing to implement the wastewater drainage and treatment system project; tourist wharf project; upgrading Long Son market and Tan Chau commercial center. These are projects of strategic significance, expanding urban space, attracting residents and investors.

Vice Chairman of Tan Chau Ward People's Committee Nguyen Minh Tuyen said: "Building a civilized urban area does not stop at investing in infrastructure or landscape beautification, but more importantly, it is about forming a cultural lifestyle and community awareness in each citizen. This is a long-term journey, requiring the consensus of the whole society." Along with infrastructure development, Tan Chau focuses on building a drug-free ward, ensuring security and order, creating a safe and friendly living environment. At the same time, the locality promotes digital transformation in urban management, gradually moving towards e-government, serving people quickly and effectively...

Tan Chau's journey to build a civilized urban area today is the journey to foster a livable urban area - where every citizen sees themselves in the changes of their homeland.
