At the traditional medicine clinic of Nguyen Trung Truc communal house in the morning, there are quite a lot of people waiting to get medicine. Although he is 73 years old, traditional medicine doctor Nguyen Quoc Hoai still sits every day to take the pulse, prescribe, and examine the people here for free. Mr. Hoai said: "As a 1/4 war invalid, with 86% loss of working capacity, thanks to traditional medicine I am healthy until now. Nguyen Hoc Cu lives for the people, for righteousness, I have served at the clinic for more than 10 years, contributing to help people, doing anything that benefits the people is happiness".
“This clinic provides free medical examinations to all people. On average, 80-90 people come in the morning to be examined and receive 500-600 prescriptions. Two weeks before the festival, 1,200 prescriptions are distributed to people every day. Here, traditional and modern medicine are dispensed. The average cost of traditional medicine is 40-50 million VND, contributed by the people,” said Mr. Hoai.
People who come to the clinic mainly have pain, cirrhosis, ascites... and most of them are poor. For many patients, this is considered a "lifesaver", especially for the poor, those in difficult circumstances, who cannot afford medical treatment. Mr. Duong Cong Thao, who is waiting for a medical examination, said: "I live in An Bien commune, have osteoarthritis, I have been getting medicine here for many years to relieve pain, it does not cost money, it saves a lot of money for my family in difficult times". Mrs. Nguyen Thi Tuoi, carrying 30 doses of medicine, shared: "I live in Giong Rieng commune, have arthritis, I have been getting medicine here for 6 months now for my child and I to take together. Having a free clinic for people like this is very meaningful, I am very grateful". Sitting nearby, Mrs. Nguyen Thi Dep (60 years old), living in Vinh Thong ward, sadly said: “I have diabetes, sore arms and legs, sciatica, weak legs, and live off of sticky rice sold in the morning at the market. Since I found out about this pharmacy, it has helped my family a lot.”
Being present at the pharmacy, you will see the enthusiasm of the staff here to serve patients, medical ethics and expertise are clearly shown, even when there are many people waiting to get medicine. The pharmacy currently has 20 people, including 1 manager, 2 doctors, 1 traditional medicine practitioner, and the rest are assistant doctors. "Being able to participate in dispensing medicine, doing something useful for the people, I feel very happy and joyful! As long as I have the strength, I will come here to serve", said Mrs. Phu Kieu Thu, 74 years old, living on Pham Ngu Lao Street, Rach Gia Ward, who has served the pharmacy for 18 years, dispensing medicine to give to the people in time.
At the acupuncture and physical therapy rehabilitation room, in the morning, the beds are full of people coming for acupuncture. Physician Dang Phuong Thanh, who has been busy performing acupuncture and taking care of patients at the clinic for 19 years, shared: "Being able to serve and seeing people recover from their illnesses is very joyful, it is the motivation for me to continue serving, as long as I have the strength, I will continue to serve." Physician Nguyen Thi Ngan, who is attached to the medicine room, shared: "Serving patients with the heart of a physician, without thinking of benefits, hearing patients say they are so healthy now, I feel happy!"
Doctor Dang Phuong Thanh said: “Patients are mainly treated for post-stroke recovery, facial nerve palsy, back pain, sciatica, etc. using acupuncture and physical therapy according to traditional medicine methods, an average of 25-30 patients/day; staff includes: 1 physician, 1 traditional medicine practitioner and 1 dedicated secretary. Stroke patients recover from 80-90%, effective treatment regimen”.
The spinal manipulation room also receives 30-40 patients per day, and is also a place for patients from all over to come to. With the meaningful humanitarian values of the clinics, the mutual love and affection, "Doctors are like kind mothers" are preserved and promoted, thereby continuing to multiply the good things, so that the good hearts of volunteers continue to be dedicated and spread.
