Keeping the family fire burning in modern life

In the midst of modern life, although the traditional family model is changing rapidly, the family is always a sustainable foundation that nurtures personality, morality and a lifestyle responsible to the community.

Organizing Vietnamese Family Day on June 28 and annual communication campaigns is an opportunity to honor and affirm the important role of family in the development of each individual.

Currently, the Vietnamese family model is undergoing profound transformation. Traditional multi-generational families are gradually giving way to nuclear families, single-parent families, and multicultural families in the context of international integration.

Even the “digital family” is clearly present when members connect through smart devices more than through shared meals. Although the model or form of living changes, the family is always the spiritual support, the place where core values are formed for each person.

In the context of digital transformation, current family media has not reflected the changes in contemporary life. Although playing a leading role, traditional radio, television, and print media have not kept up with the development of social networks and digital platforms.

Although it has appeared on digital platforms, family communication is fragmented, unsystematic, unsynchronized and uninteractive. State management agencies on family affairs have not yet oriented to choose platforms such as TikTok, YouTube, and Facebook as channels to spread family values. Therefore, communication work does not keep up with the trend of receiving information on digital platforms, leading to a state of discord and lack of attraction, especially for young people.

Digital media is not limited by time or broadcast time, helping messages to be transmitted continuously, seamlessly, and in the long term, deeply impacting social awareness. From that reality, it is necessary to innovate communication methods so that ethical values and good family lifestyles can be effectively spread. Not stopping at slogans or formal propaganda campaigns, media needs to create spaces for communication, dialogue, understanding and empathy.

A suitable direction is to build podcast series about familyeducation , behavioral skills, and share inspirational stories from families in everyday life.

With the advantage of allowing listeners to actively choose the time to listen, podcasts are suitable for modern life. In parallel, short videos with vivid subtitles on TikTok, YouTube, and Facebook Reels platforms will help directly reach young people, a group of people who are greatly affected by changes in family structure. Talk shows combined with multi-platform livestreams, live discussions with the participation of people will help the media go into the substance, creating a stronger spread compared to dry and less interactive news.

In addition to the form, the media content is renewed with the participation of artists, content creators, and people who have a positive influence on young people, helping the family story create empathy.

Instead of repeating general slogans, the media goes straight to practical issues such as conflict resolution skills, pressure between generations living together, psychological difficulties of young people when starting a family, and loneliness of the elderly in modern families. To make the message about family reach each member, it is necessary to personalize the media with specific stories: a simple family meal, a video call between generations, or an apology after a conflict.

The media also needs to create conditions for children and adolescents to become storytellers about their families on social networks, spreading values from the perspective of the new generation. Collaborating with social networking platforms to shorten content into short videos and podcasts that are easy to share will form a rich content system associated with real stories from life. An important idea is that family communication needs to aim at building a culture of dialogue within the family, becoming a catalyst for each family to open up internal communication channels, encouraging members to be willing to share and listen.
