Arriving at the battalion's obstacle course early, we could clearly see the scorching sun under the clear blue sky. However, with a spirit of "braving the heat," the officers and soldiers of the Reconnaissance Battalion remained focused and serious in their training. The quick, decisive movements of the soldiers and the clear commands of the commanders created a very lively training atmosphere. To ensure the health of the troops during training, the unit has a medical team on duty at all times with sufficient medicine and medical equipment. Between training sessions, the medical team conducts health checks, especially for those with weak physical condition. At the same time, they instruct soldiers on how to replenish fluids and take breaks at appropriate times.
In a conversation with us, Lieutenant Colonel Le Dinh Son, a medical officer in the Reconnaissance Battalion, said: "Due to the unit's specific mission, officers and soldiers frequently undergo high-intensity training. In hot weather conditions, soldiers can suffer from heatstroke, heat exhaustion, dehydration, and low blood pressure. To prevent and combat heatstroke, the unit has intensified its efforts to educate officers and soldiers on recognizing the signs such as fatigue, dizziness, headache, nausea, flushed skin, or fainting, so that timely action can be taken. In addition, we regularly monitor weather forecasts, assess the risk of heatstroke, and promptly advise unit commanders on adjusting and arranging training schedules to be appropriate and scientific ."

To enhance practical response capabilities, the unit also organized simulated training exercises on heatstroke treatment on the training ground. Through these exercises, officers and soldiers honed their skills in treating heatstroke and heat exhaustion in realistic conditions; and simultaneously enhanced the effectiveness of the medical force in ensuring the health and safety of troops during training missions in harsh weather conditions.
We learned that, to ensure the health of officers and soldiers amidst harsh weather conditions, the Reconnaissance Battalion commander proactively developed a plan and reported to higher authorities to adjust training schedules accordingly. High-intensity physical activities were organized in the early morning or late afternoon; outdoor training during the hottest hours of the day in the late morning and early afternoon was limited. For theoretical learning sessions, the unit moved them to auditoriums or sheltered areas.
Major Lam Xuan Dat, Deputy Battalion Commander of the Reconnaissance Battalion, said: "Given the current intense heat, the unit has instructed officers at all levels to proactively monitor the health of the troops; directed companies and medical personnel to strengthen health check-ups before, during, and after training, and ordered training to be stopped for those who are not in good health; and deployed medical personnel to closely monitor the troops' training process to promptly detect and effectively handle cases showing signs of heatstroke or heat exhaustion."
In addition, the soldiers' diet is given special attention. The military's meals are enhanced with soups, cooling drinks, and a variety of green vegetables, fresh fruits, and vitamin-rich foods to boost the soldiers' immunity. Refreshing drinks such as lemonade and green tea are readily available for officers and soldiers after each training session.
Sergeant Nguyen Trong Thang, 2nd Platoon, 1st Special Reconnaissance Company, shared: “On hot days, training is much more difficult, but the unit commander always cares, encourages, and reminds us to drink enough water, rest on time, and ensures we have enough electric fans and water for showering, so all the soldiers in the unit try their best and are determined to complete the training mission well.”
It is evident that the proactive and coordinated implementation of heat-related prevention and control measures by the Reconnaissance Battalion has contributed to ensuring the health and maintaining stable morale of officers and soldiers, motivating them to overcome difficulties and resolutely complete their tasks, maintain training quality, and not be affected by harsh weather conditions.
