According to the plan, the 7 exam subjects are regulated by the Department of Education and Training including: Math, Literature, Civic Education , Information Technology, Foreign Language, History and Geography, Natural Sciences.

In which, Foreign Language subject includes 3 languages: English, French, Japanese. History and Geography subject includes History sub-subject and Geography sub-subject. Natural Science subject includes 3 content streams: energy and change (corresponding to old Physics); matter and change of matter (corresponding to old Chemistry); living things (corresponding to old Biology).

Compared to previous years, this year's exam has changed in the number of subjects and the names of the subjects. The three subjects Physics, Chemistry, and Biology are not tested separately but are combined into one subject in the Natural Science exam.

This year, the Hanoi 9th graders' exam for excellent students in the city will be written tests in Literature, Mathematics, Civic Education, History and Geography. Natural Sciences and Foreign Languages ​​will be tested in a combination of written tests and objective tests. Informatics will be tested in the form of computer programming. The time for candidates to complete the test is 150 minutes.

According to regulations, each Department of Education and Training is only allowed to send a maximum of 10 candidates to each team. In special cases where 80% of the candidates in a team have won prizes in two consecutive city-level competitions, the team will be increased to a maximum of 5 candidates.

Hanoi - Amsterdam High School for the Gifted is allowed to form its own team without having to go through the district level competition. The number of candidates in a team is equivalent to the number of the Department of Education and Training.

It is expected that the Hanoi Department of Education and Training will organize the 9th grade excellent student exam on January 18, 2025.
