The Office of the State Council of Professors has announced the list of 836 candidates for Professor and Associate Professorship approved by 26 Councils of Professors of various disciplines and interdisciplinary disciplines (except for the fields of National Defense Science and Security Science) in the 2025 review period.
Among the 8 candidates for the title of professor approved by the Physics Faculty Council, Associate Professor Dr. Tran Thi Thanh Van - Head of the Faculty of Materials Science and Technology, University of Science (Ho Chi Minh City National University) is the only female candidate.
Associate Professor, Dr. Tran Thi Thanh Van was born in 1980, in Binh Dinh (old). In 2002, she graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Applied Physics from the University of Natural Sciences, Vietnam National University, Ho Chi Minh City. In 2006, she continued to receive a Master's degree in Optical Physics from the same school.
In 2011, she successfully defended her PhD thesis in Optics - Lasers, Physics - Chemistry - Atmosphere at the University of Science and Technology Lille 1, France.

Associate Professor, Dr. Tran Thi Thanh Van's teaching and research career is associated with the University of Natural Sciences, Ho Chi Minh City. She started as a teaching assistant, then became a lecturer in the Physics Department for 6 years. After that, she moved to become a lecturer in the Department of Materials Science and Technology.
In 2017, Associate Professor, Dr. Tran Thi Thanh Van was appointed Deputy Head of the Faculty of Materials Science and Technology. In 2018, she was appointed Head of the Faculty, concurrently Head of the Department of Magnetic Materials and Biomedicine of the Faculty. In the same year, she was recognized with the title of Associate Professor.
Associate Professor, Dr. Tran Thi Thanh Van has published 81 scientific articles, of which 45 were published in prestigious international journals. After being appointed Associate Professor, she continued to affirm her research capacity as the main author of 13 international scientific articles, including 9 published in Q1 journals and 4 in Q2 journals.
At the same time, she published 2 monographs at the Ho Chi Minh City National University Publishing House, both of which are prestigious publishers in the field of science. In addition, Ms. Van is also a guest editor for a special issue of the Q1 Ceramics International journal of Elsevier (a group of 25% of the world's leading scientific journals).
Her main research interests focus on rare earth-doped luminescent materials for optoelectronic applications and anti-counterfeiting security; biomedical materials for dental applications, drug delivery and antibacterial and anti-bacterial applications; and functional nanomaterials for photocatalysis, Raman sensors, optical sensors and energy applications.
