The Office of the State Council of Professors has announced the list of 836 candidates for Professor and Associate Professor positions approved by 26 disciplinary and interdisciplinary Councils of Professors (excluding the fields of National Defense Science and Security Science) in the 2025 review period.
Among the eight candidates for professorship approved by the Physics Professorship Council, Associate Professor Tran Thi Thanh Van – Head of the Department of Materials Science and Technology, Faculty of Science (Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City) – is the only female candidate.
Associate Professor Dr. Tran Thi Thanh Van was born in 1980 in Binh Dinh (formerly). In 2002, she graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Applied Physics from the University of Science, Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City. In 2006, she received a Master's degree in Optical Physics from the same university.
In 2011, she successfully defended her doctoral thesis in Optics – Laser, Physics – Chemistry – Atmospheric at the University of Science and Technology Lille 1, Republic of France.

Associate Professor Dr. Tran Thi Thanh Van's teaching and research career is closely associated with the University of Science, Ho Chi Minh City. She began as a teaching assistant and then became a lecturer in the Physics Department for six years. After that, she moved to become a lecturer in the Department of Materials Science and Technology.
In 2017, Associate Professor Tran Thi Thanh Van was appointed Deputy Head of the Faculty of Materials Science and Technology. In 2018, she was appointed Head of the Faculty, concurrently serving as Head of the Magnetic and Biomedical Materials Department of the faculty. In the same year, she was recognized as an Associate Professor.
Associate Professor Tran Thi Thanh Van has published 81 scientific articles, including 45 in prestigious international journals. After being appointed Associate Professor, she continued to demonstrate her research capabilities as the lead author of 13 international scientific articles, including 9 in Q1 journals and 4 in Q2 journals.
Simultaneously, she published two monographs with the Ho Chi Minh City National University Publishing House, both belonging to a group of prestigious publishers in the field of science. In addition, Ms. Van is also a guest editor for the Q1 issue of Ceramics International, published by Elsevier (one of the top 25% of scientific journals worldwide ).
Her main research areas focus on rare-earth-doped luminescent materials for optoelectronic and anti-counterfeiting security applications; biomedical materials for dental applications, drug delivery, and antibacterial/antibacterial properties; and functional nanomaterials for photocatalysis, Raman sensing, optical sensing, and energy applications.
With numerous contributions, Associate Professor Dr. Tran Thi Thanh Van has received several titles such as Outstanding Young Teacher, Emulation Fighter; commendations from the Ministry of Education and Training , the Party Committee of the University of Science - Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City, etc.
