Hanoi will adjust the enrollment route for primary schools from the 2026-2027 school year.

According to the Hanoi Department of Education and Training, the department is currently implementing a Geographic Information System (GIS). This system will help calculate the distance from a student's home to the school to allocate enrollment routes with the aim of placing students in the nearest school, convenient for parents and students.

Accordingly, it is expected that from the 2026-2027 school year, the primary school admission route in Hanoi will not be based on ward units as it is now, but will be based on the specific residence location of the student to calculate the route.

Along with the above innovation, Hanoi continues to maintain the goal of reducing the rate of out-of-area students and reducing the number of students per class at all levels.

The leader of the Hanoi Department of Education and Training also said that in the 2025-2026 school year, Hanoi will have more schools built.

For the 2025-2026 school year, Hanoi will maintain a stable enrollment plan for the first level with a zoning system based on ward areas, ensuring that all school-age students are admitted to schools according to their enrollment zones.

For high-quality schools with a number of applicants exceeding their quota, schools are allowed to organize admissions by combining application review with an aptitude test.

In the 2025-2026 school year, Hanoi is expected to have 95,000 children entering kindergarten, 155,000 first graders and 161,000 sixth graders.

Admission to grade 10 of Hanoi's public high schools for the 2025-2026 school year will apply the form of entrance exam with three subjects: math, literature, and foreign language.

Students applying to private schools and vocationaleducation and continuing education centers can choose to be admitted based on their academic records or the scores of the 10th grade entrance exam organized by the Hanoi Department of Education and Training.
