Speaking to the press about French President Emmanuel Macron's visit to Vietnam, French Ambassador to Vietnam Olivier Brochet affirmed that this is a very important visit in the relationship between France and Vietnam.
The visit is part of President Emmanuel Macron and his wife's tour of three Southeast Asian countries: Vietnam, Indonesia, and Singapore.
"During this visit to three Southeast Asian countries, the French President wishes to visit Vietnam first, clearly demonstrating the very special and strong relationship between France and Vietnam," the French Ambassador said.
Ambassador Oliver Brochet emphasized that last October, during General Secretary To Lam's visit to France, the two countries upgraded their relationship to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
Eight months after General Secretary To Lam's visit, President Emmanuel Macron's state visit to Vietnam aims to reaffirm the strong development of bilateral relations as well as the good framework of relations that the two countries have established.

Ambassador Olivier Brochet also stated that the French President's schedule in Vietnam mainly consists of meetings with high-ranking Vietnamese leaders.
In addition, President Emmanuel Macron will have several other activities, most notably at the Hanoi University of Science and Technology, also known as the Vietnam-France University. There, the President will meet with young people and students from the Hanoi University of Science and Technology, as well as Vietnamese students participating in other French training programs, such as the Franco-Vietnamese management training program at the Franco-Vietnamese Center for Management Training (CFVG), and the high-quality engineering training program (PFIEV).
"The President will deliver a speech to Vietnamese youth, emphasizing bilateral relations as well as the future partnership between our two countries, including the role of youth and France's support in research, training, and innovation," the Ambassador said.
In addition, another important topic of discussion during this visit was the ways in which France could accompany and support Vietnam in implementing its energy transition process.
An agreement is expected to be signed between the French Development Agency (AFD) and the Vietnam National Power Transmission Corporation to build a power transmission line. This project is part of France's support for Vietnam in implementing the Joint Partnership for a Just Energy Transition (JETP) mechanism.
