The Department of Dike Management and Disaster Prevention ( Ministry of Agriculture and Environment ) reported that at 2:30 PM on December 14th, a landslide occurred at Km124+300 on National Highway 6 in Thung Khe hamlet, Mai Chau commune, Phu Tho province.

As of 6 PM on the same day, authorities initially confirmed that 3 people were buried under the rubble (including 2 workers from Road Management Company 2 who were painting road markings; and 1 unidentified person riding a motorbike across the road).

To date, authorities have found two bodies, but they are so disfigured that their identities have not yet been determined.

The video captures the incident.

Earlier, dashcam footage showed that at the time of the landslide, two people standing on the embankment were buried. A person riding a motorbike on that section of road was also crushed by a large amount of earth and rocks.

Following the landslide that buried three people, disrupted traffic, and posed a potential safety risk, the Vietnam Road Administration directed its subordinate units to mobilize maximum resources and personnel, giving top priority to rescue efforts, promptly addressing the incident, and organizing traffic diversion from a distance to ensure safe and smooth traffic flow on the route as soon as possible.

At the scene, units mobilized excavators and bulldozers to focus on rescue efforts. Simultaneously, Road Construction Company 222 deployed two additional bulldozers to reinforce the equipment and personnel for the recovery operation.

By nearly 7 PM that same day, the location where the victim was riding the motorbike had been reached by the authorities. The operation to free and rescue the victim from the dangerous area was being carried out urgently, with the highest priority given to saving lives.

At the scene, the volume of soil and rocks that collapsed was estimated at over 1,000 m³. Although the volume was not excessively large, the need to focus on rescue efforts while simultaneously organizing cleanup in complex terrain made the recovery work very difficult.

By 7 PM, after the authorities had carried out initial cleanup and ensured the necessary safety conditions, the road was reopened to traffic for cars and buses; other vehicles continued to be regulated and rerouted according to the implemented plan.
