Hanoi requires Cu Khe Primary School to reopen its boarding kitchen

The incident started on October 15, when some parents of Cu Khe Primary School, Binh Minh Commune ( Hanoi ) discovered that Nhat Anh Trading and Service Company Limited had delivered smelly peeled meat and quail eggs to the school's canteen. The hygiene in the school's canteen was not guaranteed, so the parents were extremely worried. According to many parents, after the incident, the school announced that it would suspend the supply of food from Nhat Anh and would contract with another unit to serve the canteen from October 20.

However, on October 19, through homeroom teachers of each class, the school asked parents for their opinions on choosing two options for boarding care: Option 1, parents bring their own lunch to school for their children, the school will arrange for teachers to take care of the children eating and resting at noon in the classroom; Option 2 is parents pick up their children after morning classes and bring them back to school for afternoon classes.

According to many parents, both options put difficulties on parents as many of them work far away and cannot pick up their children at noon while cooking rice in the morning and putting it in a take-away box at noon is not guaranteed in the current weather.

Some parents of 4th graders said that on October 20, their families decided to keep their children at home to protest the school's failure to closely manage the school's canteen, its failure to fulfill its responsibilities for the children's meals, and the school's handling of the situation...

According to the report of Cu Khe Primary School, on October 20, the school organized teaching and learning according to the educational plan and implemented the announced plan. According to the school's statistics, there were 1,335 students attending school out of a total of 1,518 students, reaching a rate of 88%. The number of students absent with permission was 182, accounting for 11.9% with many reasons such as parents not being able to pick up and drop off their children, some parents not being able to prepare lunch for their children; 497 students brought lunch and slept at school, accounting for 37%; 838 students finished school and left at 10:30, accounting for a rate of 63%. The school is also implementing new bidding processes such as developing plans; sending invitations; receiving documents from bidding units...

Regarding this incident, on the afternoon of October 20, the Department of Education and Training sent a document to the People's Committee of Binh Minh Commune regarding strengthening the management of the organization of meals for boarding students. The Department of Education and Training requested the People's Committee of Binh Minh Commune to direct functional units of the commune to inspect and review food safety conditions and the organization of meals for boarding students at Cu Khe Primary School and other schools in the area; strictly handle any violations of hygiene, food safety or violations of the provisions of the contract for providing meals for students.
