While Phil Foden shone with a brace to help Man City claim three points, Haaland endured a goalless evening. Despite playing the full 90 minutes and still leading the Premier League scoring charts with 14 goals, the Norwegian striker still couldn't find the back of the net.
That means Haaland's 100-goal Premier League milestone continues to be delayed, leaving the striker disappointed.
Immediately after the match, the former Dortmund star had a rather tense exchange with Guardiola. Haaland wanted to end the conversation, but Guardiola immediately pulled his student back and hugged him twice, before both smiled and reconciled.
Speaking to the BBC , Guardiola insisted the conversation was not negative: “He will score in the next game. We only talked about rest. Erling is not in good shape and because he has played so many games, he needs to recover. Unlike Phil or Doku, Erling is not easy to rotate. We need him to be at his best.”
As for Haaland, he posted a short message on Instagram: "Today was not easy, but we never give up!"
Man City's victory makes the London derby between Chelsea and Arsenal, taking place at 11:30 p.m. on November 30, even more exciting.
