The Customs Department requested regional customs branches to direct their subordinate units to immediately prioritize customs clearance for export goods of agricultural, forestry and fishery products, especially durian.
On May 28, the Customs Department issued an official dispatch requesting regional customs branches to direct their affiliated units to facilitate and prioritize immediate customs clearance for agricultural, forestry and fishery export goods, especially durian; along with perishable goods and goods at the main harvest time.
At the same time, promptly resolve any problems arising during the process of carrying out customs procedures for exporting goods.
Closely coordinate with relevant agencies, regularly update the situation, promptly provide information on import policies and tariff policies of countries to enterprises exporting agricultural, forestry and fishery products through border gates in the area.
The Customs Department requires regional customs branches to strictly handle cases that cause trouble for businesses.
Previously, in Official Dispatch No. 71 dated May 23 on a number of tasks to promote sustainable durian production and export, the Prime Minister requested the Minister of Finance to direct the Customs Department to prioritize customs clearance procedures for durian shipments as soon as possible.
Also on May 28, the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment and the General Administration of Customs of China agreed to coordinate to remove obstacles in exporting durian from Vietnam to China.
The Ministry of Agriculture and Environment said that from May 27 to 29, the ministry's working delegation led by Minister Do Duc Duy is visiting and working with the General Department of Customs of China to discuss and coordinate to remove difficulties in exporting agricultural and aquatic products from Vietnam to China, especially durian.
At the same time, coordinate to prepare solutions to ensure smooth import and export activities for the upcoming lychee crop. In particular, agree to establish a "green agricultural product channel" mechanism, giving priority to fast customs clearance at border gates for fresh fruit products during the peak harvest season.
Vietnam remains the second largest durian supplier to China.
Durian is considered the "king of fruits" in Vietnam. According to the Department of Crop Production and Plant Protection, since the beginning of 2025, Vietnam has remained the second largest supplier of durian to China, but has seen a serious decline of 71% in volume and 74% in value.
Vietnam's durian market share in China will decrease from 42% (in 2024) to 28%. The reason is the increase in food safety inspections and increased inspection frequency.
By the end of 2024, Vietnam's durian area will reach nearly 179,000 hectares, with this year's expected harvest output of over 1.5 million tons.
