Help old lady see a doctor with money from part-time job
In recent days, social networks have been spreading images of two young men in white coats sitting next to two old ladies on a hospital bench, receiving lots of compliments. The two young men are Nguyen Minh Tien Dat (from Dong Thap) and Tung Duong (from Yen Bai). Both are interns at Ha Dong District General Hospital, Hanoi .
The photo of Dat and his friend sitting next to two elderly people was posted on his personal page on May 1st, but it was not until two weeks later that it was widely shared on social media platforms. Dat said that he often takes photos and then posts them on social media to preserve memories. Unexpectedly, the photo received a lot of attention and blessings, making him very happy.
Tien Dat and Tung Duong not only guided the two old ladies to see a doctor, they also used the money saved from their part-time jobs to help the two old ladies pay for their medical examination (Photo: Facebook Nguyen Minh Tien Dat). |
That simple but touching image did not go viral because of Dat's handsome appearance but because of the beautiful and meaningful actions of two young people who, at a pivotal stage in their lives, chose to stand with the less fortunate so that "no one is left behind".
Talking to a reporter from Cong Thuong Newspaper, Nguyen Minh Tien Dat said that he happened to meet two old ladies who came to see a doctor on the May 1 holiday. They are sisters, Mrs. Hung (born in 1953) and Mrs. Dui (born in 1956), living in Yen Nghia ward, Ha Dong district. While Mrs. Dui was having difficulty breathing and feeling tired, Mrs. Hung choked up and said to Dat in tears: "Uncle, please save my sister. She has difficulty breathing. I love her so much."
Bringing only 800 thousand dong, the small amount of money that the two old ladies saved from selling vegetables, along with a few personal items and their ID cards, they went to the hospital for medical examination and treatment without knowing if they had enough money or not. Faced with that situation, Dat and Tung Duong proactively supported, guided the two old ladies through the procedures and paid for the medical examination so that she could be examined in time. Mrs. Dui was then hospitalized and treated in the Pulmonary Respiratory Department.
“At first, the two women did not accept help, they just cried. She said she had enough money, but in fact she only had 800 thousand VND in her pocket. I thought, if I were her, my mother, I would also wish someone would help. Seeing the situation of the two old women with no relatives to rely on even in difficult times, my friend and I tried to help them, no matter how much or how little, with all our hearts,” Dat sincerely shared and said that the money he and Tung Duong helped the old woman pay for medical treatment came from savings during their part-time jobs.
Dat also said that two days later, he met the two old women on the hospital bed and found out that their illness had become complicated and serious. Seeing the two old women relying on and taking care of each other made him feel touched and emotional. He continued to share the story of the two old sisters' humanity on his personal page and received the sharing and help of many friends from the South and a benefactor who came to support the two old women, with a total amount of more than 20 million VND.
Talking about sharing and helping each other in times of hardship, Dat was moved: “ Vietnamese people are like that, always willing to join hands to help each other in times of trouble, no need to know each other, just need to be compatriots. In the most difficult times, human love shines like a warm fire, giving each other hope, faith and motivation to overcome the storm. That is what makes me proud and also the reason why I believe that, no matter how harsh life is, kindness is always present around us.”
Young hearts spread love
Behind the act of kindness at the hospital that day, few people know that Tien Dat is also a young person with a quiet but persistent journey of living for the community. On his personal page, Dat often shares moments of donating blood to save lives or photos with the national flag - something he considers a joy in life.
To date, the 22-year-old has donated blood 11 times, helping save the lives of many patients who are on the thin line between life and death. For Dat, this is not an achievement but a way to live a kind and useful life every day.

“Donating blood is something I feel proud of, because it is not just a drop of blood but also a chance to live for others. Anyone can give, all it takes is a heart that thinks of others to be able to share,” Dat confided.
Tien Dat's story does not stop at a beautiful moment in the hospital but also represents a generation of young people who live responsibly, know how to love and are ready to act for the community. The simple actions of him and his friend are like a warm light in the busy days of contemporary life, reminding us that: Kindness still exists, as long as we are sensitive enough to recognize it and brave enough to act.
Tien Dat’s journey has not stopped yet. Maybe tomorrow, he will continue to work night shifts at the hospital, continue to quietly donate blood or silently help someone he doesn’t know. But each of those kind deeds is like a gentle, beautiful ray of morning sunlight spreading into social life, healing the lingering wounds of many people.
Although they are still students and have limited finances , the two young people are still willing to use their small income from their part-time jobs to support two elderly sisters in difficult circumstances to see a doctor. Although the action is small, it has great value in terms of humanity, demonstrating the kindness and social responsibility of the young people in difficult circumstances.
The story touched many people because it spread a positive message about kindness and goodness in life. In modern society, actions like this are a ray of sunshine that helps ease difficulties and inspires many others to join hands to help those less fortunate in life. |
