Hue, Da Nang and Quang Tri simultaneously issued notices for students to stay home from school due to prolonged heavy rain, causing flooding in many places.
The Department of Education and Training of Thua Thien Hue province said at noon on October 13 that the flood situation in the area is complicated, the water level in rivers and streams is rising. Therefore, to ensure safety, students in the whole province will be off school from this afternoon. This school year, Thua Thien Hue province has about 276,000 preschool children and students at all levels.
Over the past two days, the province has been experiencing heavy rains, concentrated in the plains and coastal areas. Heavy rains have caused localized flooding in low-lying communes in Phong Dien and Quang Dien districts. Traffic on some inter-village and inter-hamlet roads has been cut off due to deep flooding.
Similarly, at around 12 noon, many schools in Da Nang notified parents to pick up their children or cancel the afternoon school day due to heavy rain. Some roads such as Le Duan, Hai Phong, and Quang Trung were flooded from 0.3 to 0.5 meters, making travel very difficult.
The Da Nang Department of Education and Training said that for boarding schools, preschoolers and students will still attend classes in the afternoon. Schools will proactively arrange their time and notify parents to pick up their children at the end of the session to ensure safety.
According to the forecast of the Central Central Hydrometeorological Station, from now until the morning of October 15, Da Nang will continue to have moderate rain, heavy rain, and in some places very heavy rain and thunderstorms; total rainfall will be 150-300mm, in some places over 350mm.
In Quang Tri , about 1,600 students in Hai Lang district were also given a day off this morning to avoid heavy rain.

According to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, heavy rain in the Central region will continue in the coming days.
At the end of September, hundreds of schools in Nghe An, Thanh Hoa... also had to close due to floods. According to regulations of the Ministry of Education and Training, the Director of the Department decided to let students stay home from school in case of extreme weather or natural disasters. After that, schools arranged make-up classes to supplement students' knowledge.
