According to TechRadar , cybersecurity experts have just issued a warning about a large-scale data leak, involving information from about 5 million credit and debit cards. The leaked data includes full names, addresses, emails, phone numbers and most importantly, credit card details of users.
Millions of credit cards have their information leaked and spread online.
Users are lured into giving credit card information to bad guys
According to Leakd.com , attackers used fake advertising forms, offering attractive deals such as free iPhones , large value gift cards, 'shocking' discounts... to lure users into entering personal information and card information.
The stolen data is stored in an unsecured Amazon S3 repository, and can be exploited by bad actors to commit fraud, identity theft, etc.
Many of the leaked screenshots include the Braniacshop logo, a fairly generic name. Researchers believe Braniacshop may have been involved, but their specific role remains unclear.
Leakd.com advises users to be extra vigilant, especially during the Christmas shopping season, when scams are common. If you have entered your card details into suspicious advertising forms, keep a close eye on your financial activity, turn on transaction alerts with your bank, update your passwords, and be wary of fraudulent emails and text messages.
The researchers also called on authorities to step in, lock down the leaked S3 storage, and notify those affected. Leakd.com said it has contacted Amazon's AWS Abuse Team security team to coordinate the incident.
With online shopping becoming more and more popular, protecting your credit card information is extremely important. Users need to be vigilant, only transact on reputable websites and absolutely do not share card information with anyone.
